In 2009, everyone took notice of Neill Blomkamp's talents when
District 9 became the sleeper hit of the summer. Its $210M revenue easily surpassed the film's meager $30M budget. Interest in his next project reached a feverish pitch. That project was the 2013 film
Elysium, which starred Matt Damon ("EuroTrip"). It pulled in $286M at the worldwide box office against a budget of $115 million (minus marketing costs).
In 2015, we'll get to see his next offering. It will be
Chappie, here's the official tagline:
"After being kidnapped by two criminals during birth, Chappie becomes the adopted son in a strange and dysfunctional family. Chappie is preternaturally gifted, one of a kind, a prodigy. He also happens to be a robot." It stars: Hugh Jackman, Sigourney Weaver and Sharlto Copley.
