The newly launched DC Studios falls under the purview of The Suicide Squad director James Gunn and veteran producer Peter Safran, but what do they have planned? We know they're plotting to tell a massive story over the next decade, MCU-style, and another character set to be at the heart of that may have been revealed.
Recently, Gunn shared an image of Lobo that's left fans convinced Jason Momoa will be pulling double duty in the DCU as that character and Aquaman.
Now, though, he's shared a shot of the relatively obscure Mister Terrific.
He first appeared in 1942, and two men have held the mantle: Terry Sloane and Michael Holt. The comic book cover shared by Gunn depicts the latter, and he's had a recurring presence on the page since 1987 (we're sure you'll also remember him from "The New 52" era of storytelling and his appearances in the Arrowverse).
Mister Terrific is able to learn skills that would take others a lifetime to perfect and is a genius scientist and Olympic athlete. The death of his family prompted him to become a superhero, and he'd later join the Justice Society of America, a team most recently featured in Black Adam.
It's unclear what role Mister Terrific would play in the DCU, but he could quite easily be the star of his own movie or the brainbox who brings all this world's superheroes together to take on a much greater threat. Gunn hasn't elaborated on why he shared this image so, for now, all we can really do is speculate.
Still, if Lobo and Mister Terrific are on their way to the DCU, it just goes to show that this franchise is finally embracing the source material and bringing some characters to the screen we've been waiting to see for a long time.
