DC Studios' James Gunn Debunks Some Big DCU Rumors But Stays Quiet On HUNTRESS And PLASTIC MAN Claims

DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn recently took to social media to debunk claims about a number of upcoming DCU projects, but remained silent on at least a couple others. Find the full story after the jump...

Earlier this week, the moderators of the r/DCULeaks page revealed that Steven Yeun had dropped out of Marvel Studios' Thunderbolts. Hours later, the trades confirmed the news, giving the Reddit page some credibility.

As the name suggests, it typically shared DCU news and last night claimed that a Plastic Man movie is in early development at DC Studios. They added that the Korean language Huntress movie we've heard about will focus on Helena Bertinelli who, in the DCU, will be portrayed as half-Italian and half-Korean.

The page also revealed that John Logan (Skyfall) is no longer attached to pen the screenplay for The Brave and the Bold

However, before we could even type those details up for you, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn took to Threads to respond to a fan who asked whether Logan was ever attached to the Batman reboot. To that, he simply said, "No he was not." He later added that the writer was never in talks.

The filmmaker then took the time to laugh off a detailed leak for Waller which claimed the Max series will run for 13 episodes and feature both Freddie Stroma as Vigilante and Sean Gunn's Maxwell Lord.

Many fans are pointing out that Gunn said nothing about Plastic Man and Huntress, leading to speculation those scoops do have some truth to them.

There have been rumblings about both projects for several months now and the Superman: Legacy helmer has never spoken out on either. Then again, he doesn't have time to debunk every rumour which does the rounds online and probably spends too much of his time doing so, anyway!

Later asked about the online chatter surrounding the DCU's John Stewart being in his early 20s, Gunn made his feelings known by responding. "Guys. If I’ve said it once I’ve said it a thousand times. Everything out there is bullshit unless it comes from me. People don’t even know the writer on the show. How do you think they’d know [the] age [of] the character?"

Superman: Legacy tells the story of Superman's journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.

David Corenswet is playing the Man of Steel, while Rachel Brosnahan has been tapped to star as Lois Lane. Other recent casting additions include Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.

Superman: Legacy is currently set to be released in theaters on July 11, 2025.

I feel like some people are now asking him stuff to take the piss lol.

John Logan would have been an interesting choice for Brave & the Bold though , his track record seems rather hit or miss but when he hits then he REALLY hits.

Interested to see the dynamic between Bruce & Damian in this universe.

So, if someone says something that's accurate first before you and you confirm it afterward, does that mean it was wrong then? If not, then I think this is a not meaningful thing to say.

@dagenspear - the odds that any of these social media bots are right is laughable, and most of the rumors are safe enough that it's almost obvious

@bobevanz - So, it doesn't mean it's wrong?

I think DC should stick to artsy movies cos folks in here don't want superhero movies, they want oscar bait movies disguised as superhero movies. Just make dark and gritty movies with R rating, lighthearted movies gives them cancer.

Also make them 100% white

I heard a rumor about Dr. Hurt being the villain of The Brave and the Bold. So, Richard E Grant will play the role.

"Everything out there is bullshit unless it comes from me."

The problem is that we have discovered that a lot of what Mr. Gunn has given fans turned out to be bullshit.

Josh needs to stop reading all his Reddit and social media leaks, and focus on being a better writer. Still over here laughing about his post-icle that tried to educate us lowly readers about the “arena of ‘scoopers’”… 🤣

I don’t know if we could be any more sick of his giddy reactions to BS rumors, or if I cringe more at his overused idioms about “rumblings” (did he break wind?! 🙄)

Why would Marvel buy Batman? He'll be public domain in ten years.

We could literally have a Marvel Batman movie in 10 years time. Seriously. Isn't that nuts?
Shazam can be Captain Marvel again.
DC can do a Captain America movie.
Captain America leading the Justice League.
Superman leading the Avengers!

On that note, I'll bet you guys missed this news:

DC just figured out that they own Machine Man (because they own 2001) and have told Marvel that if they ever use the character again, they'll sue.

I'm really hoping this means that DC will print a Jack Kirby 2001 Omnibus or two, maybe with fully painted Alex Ross covers (he loves Machine Man).

The future is wild in terms who IP and public domain. We could literally see a Captain America Superman team up movie in the in about a decade.

We could even see a Machine Man/Transformers DC movie! And it wouldn't even be an intercompany crossover because they would own both of those franchises.
Shit's wild.

@ObserverIO - the 2040s are gonna be wild for sure with how much stuff will be in the public domain then. Hadn't really thought about it yet, but I already look forward to it

James Gunn debunking shit on social media is probably my favourite on-going DC thing now. And even then people try to read between the lines, while Gunn is explicitly telling them again and again only believe the words he is saying.
