DCEU: Is Henry Cavill Looking To Extend His Contract To Play Superman?

The DCEU's future is uncertain and while we're always unsure of the state of our Dark Knight, it seems that our current Man of Steel is here to stay as rumour has it Henry Cavill is extending his contract

Henry Cavill's Superman has had a somewhat bad go of it but despite the mixed reception to the big screen reboot of the character in Man of Steel, the follow up Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and then the CGI debacle of last years Justice League, there's one thing that the majority of fans and movie goers leave thinking: I wish Henry Cavill was given better material.

In fact in Justice League, the one positive to come from that films tumutluous production was that -  lip aside - Cavill was finally allowed to be the Superman that we all know and recognise. The Superman that he could be and that he could play so well. Now while it's unclear where the DCEU is going from here in terms of the big picture, a new report from Revenge of the Nerds indicates that Henry Cavill will be around to find out.

Cavill it seems is looking to extend his deal with WarnerBros. According to RotF’s sources, Cavill wants his (not yet confirmed) appearance in Shazam! to count as the final film in his contract, with a long awaited Man of Steel 2 to kick off his new deal. Both parties are reportedly open to the idea of an extension, and it’s simply a matter of contractual logistics.

This all remains to be seen of course but it' would be a shame to lose Henry Cavill who obviously has had such love for the character, and such potential in the role if only he were really given the chance to shine.

What do you think? Are you happy Henry Cavill will be sticking around? What have you thought of his Superman thus far? What would you like to se in a Man of Steel 2? Leave your thoughts below.

@Titan417 - I hope he does stick around and he gets to shine as Superman once and for all. He is such a good actor. First time I saw him with the famous stach I thought he was perfect for Magnum PI

Yeah, i'm confident he will.
The bigger question is "will Josh steal this article?" D:
Only time will tell...

Cavill is too good for the current iteration of the DCeU, I’m glad he’s so committed to the character but the guy needs better material to work with.

Hopefully he steals the show in Mission Impossible and it prompt WB execs to get off their asses and green light a Man of Steel sequel.

Hopefully, he'll want to continue on. Its time that Superman be taken seriously again.

Hell yeah, extend that shit. Regardless of what people say about the DCEU, no one can say Henry Cavill isn’t perfect for Superman, especially in Justice League. And there’s so many stories to tell, so many villains. Brainiac, Bizarro, Metallo, Parasite, Mongul, Toyman, Silver Banshee, Mr. Mxyzptlk, and Darkseid and the rest of Apokalips. I want this to continue, regardless of what haters think.

He'll be the next Bond...I think that's the only reason Craig came back for one more. EON has a prous history of casting the previous runner up.

@Canon108 - I hope you're right, he'd be a pretty good Bond. Craig was a badass but he just wasn't good looking enough for Bond, kind of like Timothy Dalton except Craig can act and play suave.

@SuperManes - what I find interesting was Roger Moore was the runner up to Lazenby, Dalton was the runner up to Moore before being deemed too young, Brosnan was cast initially but Remington Steele got renewed in a network change and dropped out because he was still contracted to the part which opened it to Dalton...then Cavill was Martin Campbell's choice for the part but EON ultimately went with Craig. Cavill should be the odds on favourite for the part seeing as how he's trying to get the films on his contract over and done with and Craug films his last Bond film later this year.

@Canon108 - Lazenby sucked, so did Dalton. Moore is definitely one of my faves though I know many people don't care for him. I thought Cavill was pushing to reup his DC contract, he's said many times that Superman was the role of a lifetime.

@SuperManes - he probably wants to do both, he's said several times he does it for the money. That being said too. DC have completely mismanaged their film series, he wants Shazam so he can finish his contract. He probably wants to do both, but likely will try to make Bond the priority. Actors have done more than one franchise before...Ford did Star Wars/Indy,McKellan did LotR and X-Men, Arnold did multiple franchises at tbe same time, so it isn't unheard of.

@Canon108 - I get that but I don't see any sign that he wants out of the DC films, everything I've seen from Cavill points to him loving being involved and playing Supes. And I don't think his talk about the money was directly tied to playing Superman but just acting in general. He's saying that he doesn't act just for the art, the money is important too.

I'd still rather play Superman than James Bond.
