We have seen the heroes and villains of Marvel and DC Comics interact on the page several times over the years, but that sort of universe cross-promotion is something that's always seemed next to impossible in live-action.
However, Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige has previously said that he'd never rule it out, and recently appointed DC Studios co-head James Gunn has now revealed that the idea has actually been tossed around.
“I’m certain that’s more likely now that I’m in charge [at DC],” the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director tells Empire. “Who knows? That’s many years away, though,” he adds. “I think we have to establish what we’re doing [at DC] first. I would be lying to say that we haven’t discussed it. But all discussions have been very, very light and fun.”
The logistics of a Marvel/DC crossover simply doesn't make much sense - or wouldn't have a few years ago, at least. Though it may still be a hard sell, the introduction of a Multiverse in both the MCU and DCU does open the door to the possibility.
Both studios actually striking some kind of deal to work together and share their rosters of characters might seem like wishful thinking, but if the right parties want to make it happen, why not?
Of course, whether it's something fans would even want to see is another matter!
