The writing has been on the wall for quite a while, and Walter Hamada is now officially out as DC Films President at Warner Bros. Discovery.
According to Deadline, Hamada is still waiting for senior WBD brass to finalize his exit payout, bit has "packed up his office and hasn’t been part of recent creative meetings."
Hamada has been with the studio for 15 years, four of which were spent overseeing the DC Films division. Though he seemed to be generally well liked and respected, he did become a somewhat controversial figure after Cyborg actor Ray Fisher accused him of "enabling" the likes of Joss Whedon and Geoff Johns during Justice League's reshoots (he's still waiting on that apology).
It's said that Hamada "knew his days were numbered" as DC Films chief even before he met David Zaslav, who has made his desire to bring in a "Kevin Feige-type" to run DC across all mediums very clear since taking charge of the recently-merged company.
Hamada was reportedly offered a producing deal, but turned it down after being highly critical of the decision to scrap Batgirl in the middle of postproduction.
Though not known to be "a gifted talent schmoozer," Hamada has been at the forefront of some of DC Films' biggest successes, including Aquaman, Joker, The Batman, Peacemaker, and more. He also served as an executive producer on the upcoming Black Adam, which looks set for a $135M+ global opening.
Zaslav is still on the lookout for his Kevin Feige, but for now, it looks like Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy will steer the ship.
