X-FORCE Director Drew Goddard Comments On THAT Scene From DEADPOOL 2 - Spoilers Follow

If you've seen Deadpool 2 you'll know that a certain scene could have major implications for Drew Goddard's X-Force movie, and in a new interview, the director shares his thoughts on what went down...

In one of Deadpool 2's most hilarious sequences, most of the members of the first incarnation of X-Force are wiped out in a matter of seconds, the only survivors being Domino and Wade Wilson himself.

Before the movie hit theaters, fans had assumed that the X-Force movie would focus on the characters that were introduced here, such as Shatterstar, Bedlam and Zeitgeist, but obviously that's not going to be the case. So, where does that leave Drew Goddard?

As it turns out, the director was well aware of the plan to kill-off proto-X-Force, and was 100% on board with it.

“To be honest, I think that’s why it excited me so much. I remember reading that scene and just cackling with delight, specifically because it was the very last thing you’d expect to happen in one of these movies. These movies are so careful to set up the next thing and the next thing, and it made me so happy.”

Goddard told Ryan Reynolds and co. to just go ahead and make the movie they wanted to make, and he'd figure out what to do with the mutant super-group further down the line. Though there will almost certainly be other characters joining the roster, the director confirms that the core members will be Deadpool, Domino and Cable.

“It really all stems from a place of love; I love those comics, I love Ryan, I love Josh, and I love Zazie Beetz. When I think of the comics, I think of Cable and Domino and Deadpool, and it’s really just knowing, ‘Oh, right, there’s a world in the X-Universe for the blunt instruments of mutantdom.’ It’s much more about the characters and my love for them than it is about any plot or story line. It’s more about loving them and wanting to see them bounce off each other.”

There are obviously a lot of Marvel Comics heroes that Goddard could choose to utilize for the X-Force movie, including some that have already appeared in earlier X-Men films such as Psylocke and Archangel. Of course, this being Fox, they'd most likely be recast!

Tell us, who would you like to see join Deadpool, Cable and Domino in the new X-Force lineup? Sound off below.

@4N6 - Although I did enjoy this scene, I thought the toddler legs part was the funniest scene in the whole movie. Definitely generated the most laughs in my theater last night.

I actually expected the X-Force to meet their end. Think the X-Force movie will be a completely new thing. Hope psylocke and X-23 are in it

And THAT is why I'm happy to not pull these DP movies into the MCU after the acquisition of Fox

Awesome to waste multiple characters for a single joke in a standalone, not so much in a shared universe

@OmegaDaGrodd - right, cuz Marvel would eventually introduce them correct?

This scene probably got the most laughs in my theater. The running “wind” gag continued to work too.

X-Force being the progressive, gender neutral team😂

I was dying.

I really hope Psylocke is in X-force.

Domino, Cable and Domiono are all Melee fighters. While Psyloke is that too her Psy powers bring some diversity to the powerset.

Hopefully they show Cable using his teleosts to. It not clear in the film if he is using it in his gun or had magnetic technology which kept returning his gun to him.

...Except that I totally saw it coming... This gag based on the trailer alone. And when they introduced Zeitgeist, it was a certainty (head-fake shock deaths is what the guy is for).

Maybe I'm just too in sync with where the Deadpool folks' headspace is, because everything about that movie felt like deva vu to me, when you feel like you're constantly on the verge of predicting things as they are happening.

Deadpool 2 felt like someone had run the entire FoX-Men franchise through a complex neural net based on the minds of Ben Edlund, Chris McCulloch, and Doc Hammer. And on paper, all of the material works.

But if you've actually seen the Tick and the Venture Brothers, it's hard to feel like Deadpool 2 isn't a pale, tame, facsimile.

I'm honestly not trying to ruin anyone's fun. If you like the movie, good for you. Sorry for spritzing on the parade.

Right on the money.

@Spock0Clock - off topic, but I think Shazam has the potential to be very Tick-ish if handled well. I think a Tick vibe would compliment it in some areas.

@Spock0Clock - the tick is funnier and older than deadpool starting with the comics in 89 if anybody deserves a movie its the tick but millennials dont know who the tick is and will call him a ripoff

@BlackBeltJones - I just thought of the perfect way to tie it into the DCEU, and a way to give Cavill's Superman a super melodramatic send-off:

Except that he didn't get to finish the message, so all it says is:

𝔻𝕆𝔾𝕆𝕆

And people look up and wonder... "Where did Superman go and what the hell is dogoo?"

Well, the New Mutants, obviously. Maybe older versions, maybe not, depending on when that movie is set and whether or not the actors are any good in their roles.

Also, I love how the Deadpool sequel left things open-ended for Drew, because of the time travel device. He's basically got free reign on decided whether or not any of these characters should stay dead or not.
