DEADPOOL 3 Director Hints At Which Character Will Win In Wade Vs. Wolverine Battle - Possible SPOILERS

Though he doesn't spoil anything outright, Deadpool 3 director Shawn Levy has dropped a pretty big hint about which character will come out on top when Wolverine and Wade Wilson clash...

Though they're sure to team-up at some point, Deadpool 3 set photos have confirmed that the Merc With a Mouth (Ryan Reynolds) and Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) will go one-on-one in the upcoming threequel, and director Shawn Levy may have given us some idea of how the battle will turn out.

Levy was quizzed about the highly-anticipated showdown during an interview with Sirius XM, and while refrained from giving away too much, the filmmaker indicated that ol' Wade Wilson may not come out on the winning end of the fight.

The Real Steel director starts by saying he wishes he could go into more detail, before pointing out that both Reynolds and Jackman are completely unselfish when it comes to how their characters are depicted, adding that "both guys are always trying to set up the other to win."

However!

Potential spoilers follow.

“At every turn, Ryan is amazing at wanting Deadpool to lose. The truth is that Deadpool’s awesome but he’s deeply flawed…and Wolverine is Wolverine.”

We're sure Wade will get his licks in, but it sounds like Logan will ultimately prevail - which really shouldn't come as too much of a surprise.

Levy was also asked about the persistent rumor that Taylor Swift is going to appear in the movie, and once again, would only offer a "no comment."

So far, the only confirmed cameo is Jennifer Garner's Elektra, but if she's involved, you can bet that at least some of the other names we heard will also be showing up.

Morena Baccarin (Vanessa), Karan Soni (Dopinder), Leslie Uggams (Blind Al), Rob Delaney (Peter), Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead) And Shioli Kutsuna (Yukio) will all return as their respective characters, and they'll be joined by franchise newcomers Emma Corrin (The Crown), who is believed to be playing Cassandra Nova, and Matthew Macfadyen (Succession).

Specific lot details remain a mystery for now, but Wade and Wolvie are expected to find themselves (trapped?) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A recent report claimed that Loki's TVA, including Agent Mobius (Owen Wilson) and Miss Minutes, will be involved. We have also been led to believe that Wade's MCU debut will be far more integral to Phase 5 and beyond than we first realized.

Deadpool 3 was scheduled to hit theaters on May 3, 2024, but the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike will likely cause a delay. Though nothing has been made official, the trades believe the film will be pushed back to July.

@incredibleTalk - Yup. We need the MCU to give us the definitive X-Men. And that means starting from scratch. Fox dropped the ball hard.

It's gonna be a tie, due their almost immortal abilities; that or Wolvie win, but barely.

@CharlesLeeRay - wolverine will probably win by decapitation, and then Deadpool can do the gag where his body is tiny and his head is normal sized.

@CharlesLeeRay - wolverine can cut Deadpool into pieces, Deadpool can’t cut wolverine into pieces. That’s a huge advantage

@Havenless - Sure he can. Wolverine has had body parts cut off before.

Cyclops blew his hand off in Age of Apocalylse. Hulk literally tore Wolverine in half with his bare hands.

Wolverine's bones are coated with Adamantium, but not the spaces between his bones, and not his ligaments and tendons. If something cuts between bone joints then he'll lose a limb just like anyone else.

@CharlesLeeRay - Deadpool literally has a sword that negates healing factors.

@Havenless - joints aren't covered in adamantium.

@Origame - Well, technically DP usually has 2 swords (along with a bunch of other weapons), whereas Logan typically just relies on his claws and fists, so I take your point that it's going to be a pretty evenly matched fight.

PLUS, one thing we don't know (and I don't know if it's been addressed in the comics) is this: of all those mutants who have healing factors, who do their healing factors stack up as far as speed? I mean, as normal people we have immune systems, but some have stronger immune systems than others and therefore heal faster, and I would assume that the same is true with mutant healing factors. So while both Wade and Logan have that, it's entirely possible that one could heal faster than the other, which could give them the advantage in battle. I don't know if they will actually address this issue in the movie (and both characters have exhibited pretty speedy recoveries), but that could be a deal-breaker between them, if they are both fairly well matched otherwise.

@StSteven - thing is, Deadpool has hammer space. So he has access to all his weapons.

And wolverine is faster in terms of healing, but again it doesn't matter if he gets a hit in with the sword that negates healing factors.
StSteven
StSteven - 10/21/2023, 10:42 PM
@Origame - Okay, so clearly you know more about this than I do (I haven't read/collected comics since the mid-90s except for Transformers). So what are "hammer space" and 'the sword that negates healing factors"? And while they may exist in the comics, do we think that those concepts are too deep to transition over to the MCU (meaning that they would take too much explaining for one probably already packed movie)?
Origame
Origame - 10/22/2023, 8:47 AM
@StSteven - oh no problem. Hammer space is basically looney tunes logic, where they can hold basically anything they want despite the physical impracticality of it. And his healing factor negating sword is something that isn't actually explained, he just has it to kill wolverine.

Deadpool is on kill the marvel universe level.
StSteven
StSteven - 10/22/2023, 2:47 PM
@Origame - Thanks for the info. So "hammer space" is basically makes DP "The Mask" magically negates Wolverine's healing factor. Got it. Well then those would obviously give DP the advantage. With that in mind, however, I can see a couple of reasons why they might not want to include either of those in "DP3":

(1) Hammer space might be too off the wall even for a DP movie. I mean, sure they push the believability with how severely he can be injured and regenerate and his 4th wall breaking, but "The Mask" type stuff might be going too far for the GA.

(2) Both of those "tools" would require some decent explaining if they did include them in the movie to be even somewhat believable and with likely so much other stuff going on I don't know if they would want to chance derailing the plot to explain them

(3) DP having those would obviously give him a considerable advantage over Wolvie which I don't think they would want to do in this movie, given that DP and Logan are supposed to initially fight and then buddy up for the rest of the movie. Now if this were "DP Kills the Marvel Universe" then I could totally see him using those (which who knows, we may see in live action or animated form somewhere on down the line).

If I had to guess, I think we're just going to see Wade and Logan just tearing the shit out of each other, regenerating, rinse, and repeat in bloody and comical ways for about a good 10-15 minutes before they realize that they can't kill each other and call a truce, which I'm totally down for (bonus points if Wade kicks Logan in the balls as a reference to Logan's very first appearance in the first "X-Men" film where the other guy fighting him in the cage match is warned not to do that).

I don't think anyone actually wants the two to fight, the visuals of them fighting are not particularly unique or interesting and them fighting each other can never really go anywhere?

Both are semi-immortal regenerative characters. Wolverine has his adamantium skeleton that prevents him being sliced up, so any damage he can just regen. Meanwhile Deadpool can fully regenerate limbs and body parts, so any slicing up from Wolverine is irrelevant.

The appeal was the two actors interacting as the characters, having fun, talking shit about each other and teaming up to utterly wreck a villain.

If they try to sell this as another 'Batman V Superman' style fight its going to alienate people because they like both characters and the fight can never end in anything other than a tie.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 10/21/2023, 8:42 PM
@Scarilian - They can end it comically, like with Wolverine doing something to restrain Deadpool in a funny way.

Kind of like when the Punisher shot Wolverine in the balls and then ran him over with a steam roller, left the steam roller parked on Logan's head. Punisher walked off while Logan was talking all kinds of trash from under the steam roller.

I can totally see them doing something like in the movie.

If it’s well written and properly directed the real winner is the fans. 👍

The real question would be does Deadpool even care about winning?

If you decapitaed Deadpool would he regenerate a body from his and a head from his body? Would we then have two Deadpools?

Or is his head the thing that would regenerate a body and the decapitated body would be dead?

Deadpool getting his ass handed to him (as a joke) has been a constant in both movies, much to everyones delight. Of course we want to see Wolverine knock him to pieces, cause we know ultimately they're going to work together on the same side regardless. Lest we forget that it is a DEADPOOL movie overall (even though they then again haven't officially titled it yet). Would be kind of hilarious though if Wolverine killed him off and that was it for Reynolds' Deadpool entirely.

We still havent seen anything official or even any form of confirmation Wolverine is 100% getting some kind of a mask at some point in DP3, right? Its still just speculation and fan manips so far, right? I mean i know everyone pretty much assumes it has to appear even if its a joke for one scene, they have to do it.... but we still dont have confirmation, right?

I just keep looking at the tailored neck line of Wolverines suit and i just cant see that connecting in a cowl like fasion id be pleased with. Im almost wondering if the suit is the nod, but still no mask.
