DEADPOOL 3 Director Shawn Levy Promises In Your Face Violence In Marvel Studios' R-Rated Threequel

Deadpool 3 director Shawn Levy has reiterated that the upcoming threequel will be R-Rated, saying that among the visual effects, fans can look forward to a "raw, gritty, grounded" take on the title hero.

Deadpool 3 will see Ryan Reynolds' Merc with the Mouth team up with Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, and while the threequel is already confirmed to be R-Rated, is that definitely going to be the case in the MCU? Some fans understandably have their doubts, but director Shawn Levy has reiterated those plans during a recent interview with Collider.

Despite every single Marvel Studios movie being family-friendly up until this point, it's apparent that the Merc with the Mouth won't be watered down when he makes the leap from Fox's X-Men Universe.

"We are writing, rewriting, developing, prepping 'Deadpool' every day now. It is such a blast to laugh every day," Levy says. "It is so delicious to hear and write and come up with these scenes where people are just talking foul. And the violence is in your face and hardcore, and it's very much a 'Deadpool' movie."

"I have to say, developing a 'Deadpool' movie is one of the most fun creative experiences of my life because it's not just that it's rated R," he continues. "It's that it's so filled with self-awareness, and that makes in-writing very, very fun in a way that is unique to that franchise."

Levy would go on to say that bowing down to studio pressure and making The Internship PG-13 instead of R-Rated remains one of the biggest mistakes of his career, so we don't anticipate any similar cuts being made to Deadpool 3

Finally, the filmmaker would confirm that shooting begins next May, adding: "The truth is the more digitally CG-heavy a movie is, the longer time you need in post. But obviously it's the first Deadpool movie in the MCU. There's going to be no lack of visual effects."

"But it's also a North Star priority for Ryan and I to keep Deadpool raw, gritty, grounded in the ways that those movies have been and that all of us love."

We're definitely excited to see what Levy and Reynolds come up with, and all signs point to the threequel being the best Deadpool movie yet. Our only request would be that it ends with Wade Wilson as a permanent addition to the MCU!

Deadpool 3 is set to be released in theaters on November 8, 2024.

I'm not so worried or hung up about the movie having a hard "R" rating. I just want it to be fun with a very good story. If it meets that, I'll be very happy and satisfied.

He’s making Jackman shorter… digitally!!

@BoneSawIsReady - Honestly they could. Make him shorter and stockier quite easily without it looking weird. And it would make it easier for Hugh to continue in the role for awhile, assuming they want him as Logan through Secret Wars, prior to the big reset.

Does anyone remember when comic books were at least somewhat oriented toward kids? And Disney produced actual family-friendly fare? Now Disney and Marvel are engaged in a campaign to offend and deter what used to be their base clientele at all costs.

Don't expect to see an Endgame-level blockbuster again.
