DEADPOOL 3 Star Ryan Reynolds On Hugh Jackman's Wolverine Return And "Red Tape" Surrounding X-MEN

Deadpool 3 star Ryan Reynolds has talked more about Hugh Jackman's return as Wolverine, explaining that bringing him and the X-Men into the MCU meant going through an awful lot of red tape. Check it out!

Ryan Reynolds broke the internet when he dropped a video announcing that Deadpool 3 will feature the return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. The movie is expected to take place in Fox's X-Men Universe, though we anticipate the Merc with the Mouth ultimately finding his way into the MCU.

Needless to say, it can't have been easy bringing Jackman back into the fold, particularly after 2017's Logan. However, convincing his old X-Men Origins: Wolverine co-star to wield those claws again wasn't the only hurdle Reynolds faced.

"It’s not like adding Hugh Jackman to a movie like this is a hard sell. It’s an immediate and emphatic, unqualified yes," he tells Collider"It’s a lot of moving parts and Fox and X-Men and all that kind of stuff that Marvel needs to sort through. A lot of red tape in order to make that happen. And they did it."

"And I’m really grateful that they did it, because for me, working with Hugh is a dream come true. But working with Logan and having Logan and Wade together in a movie is beyond any dream I would ever be audacious enough to have. So I’m really, really super f***ing excited to do this film."

Reynolds went on to reveal that he first met with Marvel Studios President three or four years ago when Disney acquired Fox. While they discussed a Deadpool/Wolverine movie, he says that "was not possible at the time," but Jackman's insistence he play Wolverine again played a big role in making this long-awaited team-up a reality.

"Hugh just happened to call at that perfect moment and express that he’d be interested in coming back and doing this one more time. And the contents of that conversation...I’ll let Hugh answer that on his own. But he expressed interest in coming back, and then it was my job to take that to Kevin Feige one more time and sell it."

When the untitled Deadpool threequel was being made at Fox, Reynolds said the movie would be a "road trip...Rashomon style." It's been through a few different writers since then and moved under the purview of Marvel Studios, and the expectation now is that Logan and Wade Wilson might be taking a journey through the Multiverse!

Deadpool 3 is set to be released in theaters on November 8, 2024.

Love how they've forgotten they shared the big screen before.

Origins was so bad.

Still not really thrilled about Jackman being back. Nothing against the guy, just would like to move forward.

I’d still re-watch origins rather than finish watching new mutant. Well, I guess now that it’s on Disney Clus I’ll get around to finishing it. But I’m still not caught up on Star Wars stuff so maybe not. In fact, I barely got into werewolf by night. It’s like I’m not finishing anything anymore.. I hope Willow 2 is good Dang it.

@TheWalkingCuban - agreed. Whilst it has its problems it’s still an entertaining movie about X Men

@TheWalkingCuban - Yeah I get what you are saying. I haven't Kenobi and I started Andor and She-Hulk but haven't finished, I won't She-Hulk but the other two are more lightly, especially Andor.

Out of the Netflix Marvel shows.

I watched Daredevil Seasons 1-3,Jessica Jones Season 1 and 1 episode short of seeing all of Luke Cage Season 1, I haven't seen any of the others.

@TheWalkingCuban - I would watch New Mutants over X-Men Origins:Wolverine.

"Rashomon style"? Yes please. I love this style. "Go" was a fun movie. I think that may have been my first experience with that.

Not looking forward to this, DP2 wasn’t as good as DP, and DP3 could easily be the worst of them all. Just bc Huge is in it, doesn’t mean squat.

I hope the storyline isn’t too confusing for the GA as I’m sure we’ll end up w/ a new Wolvie at some point.

Brining back Huge just makes the multiverse more convoluted in my op

If he doesn’t wear the a comic accurate costume this whole movie will be a waste

I’m more than ready for the new MCU X-men to make their debut, not so much for rehashing the “best part” of the FoX-Men

@MuadDib - Jeez, you’re bringing a lot of baggage into this.

@MuadDib - FACTS, after a while it's just TOO much going on. Wolverin is such a DOPE character, I'd rather be hyped to see the NEW MCU Wolverine instead of seeing the old Hughverine again, diminishing the excitement of seeing the REAL Wolverine of the MCU.
