DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE Star Hugh Jackman Reflects On MCU Debut As Officially Released Shirtless Photo Wows Fans

Deadpool & Wolverine star Hugh Jackman has shared the backstory of how that memorable Deadpool 3 announcement video was shot, while we have more must-see behind-the-scenes content. Check it out here...

In 2017, Logan left even the most hard-hearted comic book fans blubbing. The movie saw Hugh Jackman bid farewell to Wolverine after the clawed mutant made the ultimate sacrifice to save X-23, an emotional passing of the baton derailed by the Disney/Fox merger.

As a result, we weren't expecting to see Wolverine in the MCU until Marvel Studios reboots the X-Men. However, Ryan Reynolds managed to talk Jackman into a team-up, and Deadpool & Wolverine continues to break box office records.

"This photo was taken September 4, 2022," Jackman shared in the Instagram post below. "There were maybe 7 or 8 people in the world who knew [Ryan Reynolds] and I were about to shoot a little something to announce that [Deadpool and Wolverine] were joining the MCU."

"Becoming Wolverine Again was born. It’s one of the most important moments of my life. I think at that very moment Ryan literally asked me if I was sure. I was! I am!" the actor continued. "So we shot this with [Shawn Levy] and [Maximum Effort] and held our collective breath that it didn’t leak. To all of our surprise it didn’t."

And with that, we finally have an origin story for that amazing announcement video.

Reynolds, meanwhile, took to X yesterday evening to share an official shot of Jackman's Wolverine from the movie's closing moments. Yes, the abs are real and Jackman, unbelievably, is really 55 years old!

Finally, Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy has shared a new behind-the-scenes photo of himself, Reynolds, and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige taking a break and hanging out on Hulk's bed from Thor: Ragnarok (which was hidden in the background of the Resistance's hideout).

Shawn Levy directs Deadpool & Wolverine, which stars Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, Matthew Macfadyen, and Dafne Keen. The movie is written by Ryan Reynolds & Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick & Zeb Wells & Shawn Levy.

Kevin Feige, Reynolds, Levy and Lauren Shuler Donner produce with Louis D’Esposito, Wendy Jacobson, Mary McLaglen, Josh McLaglen, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, George Dewey, Simon Kinberg and Jonathon Komack Martin serving as executive producers.

Deadpool & Wolverine is now playing in theaters.

Goddamn this movie was good. It'll be the first Blu-ray I've bought in a while when it releases.

It's like he's trying to appear as tall as possible. Why do you hate me, hugh?

I haven’t seen it yet (as I’m on an extended vacation with my family across Europe), but the sheer amount of love and reverence that seems to have gone into this movie by all parties concerned is astounding and makes me think that this be something REALLY special.

@StSteven - Yeah, it is special. You can watch it knowing you'll have a great time. One of the best since EG, easy!

@Fogs - Thanks! Good to know! While I don’t plan on seeing it while I’m overseas, my wife ended up with a free ticket through AMC (I’m not going to ask how), so I guess I’m obligated to go see it when I get back to the states. That would mark the first time that I’ve ever seen a movie by myself, but I have to use the ticket and I don’t think that this movie is suitable for my little girls, so whatcha gonna do? 😊

@McMurdo - Which is one of my top reasons for NOT taking my little girls to see it. It’s bad enough that my 8 year old I has become a Swifty recently. The LAST thing I need is to walk into her bedroom and find a poster of shirtless Reynolds tacked to the wall.

@Fogs - Thanks! We just arrived in London from Paris and then Rome before that. Currently on the tube on the way to Bloomsbury. Cheers!

@StSteven - It's Marvel Studios best film since Endgame. This is a film that has you thinking about it the next day. Marvel needed to score big on this, and it looks like it will cross $1 billion.
StSteven
StSteven - 8/5/2024, 6:48 AM
@dragon316 - Thanks. I'd rather just focus on making sure my family has as good of a time on our trip as possible right now. The movie will still be there when I get back (and for some time after that based on how well it's doing),

@McMurdo - Dude, she's already been asking for an actual Ken doll to go along with her Barbies (she's been using a Cristof doll from Frozen in the meantime). And we all remember who played him in the Barbie movie... 😳.
StSteven
StSteven - 8/5/2024, 7:04 AM
@GeneralZod - I think at this point it will definitely cross $1 billion by the end of the week. And I totally dig movies that you find yourself thinking about the next day (in a good way), so I'm definitely looking forward to it. I just wish that at least my wife could go because one of the reasons that I don't like going to movies by myself is having that shared experience with someone I know so that we can talk about it afterward. Looks like I'll just have to make due with you schlubs 😉.

StSteven - 8/5/2024, 7:10 AM
@Fogs - Well we just got to London so it's hard to judge all 3 yet, but based on my wife's response to our dinner last night (in London)... I'm guessing the overall consensus will be Paris. Rome was hot and rather dirty (at least the part where we stayed) and our B&B was so-so (like the toilet didn't really flush and the A/c barely worked), but the nightlife was rocking and the food was great. Plus we got to see a good number of ancient ruins and such (Pantheon, etc.), along with shopping, etc.

Paris was kinda like Rome, but the weather was better, we got to see more stuff (the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower, the Catacombs, etc.) plus they had all the Olympics stuff going on which just added to it. The food was also pretty good, although personally I like the Roman food better but that's probably because I really like Italian food in general.

So today's our first full day in London and we're currently planning what we're going to do (probably see the traditional sights, at least for today), so I'll have a better overall assessment by the time we head back to the States on Thursday. Cheers!

It is impressive how he got in that shape at that age. I just hope he did it clean. Most likely used TRT.
braunermegda
braunermegda - 8/4/2024, 7:49 AM
@S8R8M - dude.... he's juiced as he'll and that's okay, it's literally impossible to achieve that in his age without juice. Still need to work his ass off, of course, but... juiced. Sorry to break it for you.
S8R8M
S8R8M - 8/4/2024, 8:46 AM
@braunermegda - Well there are 2 ways at his age. Go a cleaner route and use a method of TRT or go the dirty route and use anabolic steroids. Thank you for not reading my comment correctly and acted like someone on roids hahaha
thedrudo
thedrudo - 8/4/2024, 9:22 AM
@S8R8M - This one is interesting because he looks cut but he’s not massive. Like he appears way leaner than ever before while playing Wolverine.
S8R8M
S8R8M - 8/4/2024, 9:53 AM
@thedrudo - Yeah his arms are not as big as they made out. He looks great though. Better than what I can do.
braunermegda
braunermegda - 8/4/2024, 11:06 AM
@S8R8M - TRT wouldn't give this result alone. Especially because the doses for TRT are minimal to achieve this in such a small amount of time, so sorry, he's on steroids. He may even be only on testosterone but with a doses that's not just reposition. But it's okay, he's got the best doctors around him and we know how Hollywood works. This does not demerit his work at all.
GeneralZod
GeneralZod - 8/4/2024, 11:54 AM
@S8R8M - 100%. And HGH.
S8R8M
S8R8M - 8/4/2024, 1:05 PM
@GeneralZod - I never knew about HGH. I thought HJ looked taller than Reynolds.
GeneralZod
GeneralZod - 8/4/2024, 10:23 PM
@S8R8M - I am HJ's age. I eat well, lift weights, do aerobic interval training, blah blah blah. 100% natty. It is impossible to look like HJ without a pharmacy and a good cosmetic surgeon. But, more power to him. He cemented himself to audiences around the globe as The Wolverine for the next 5 years. Not much different than how audiences went wild when Garfield and McGuire showed up in NWH. The "Spider-Men" will be back. We have a hard time letting go of our big screen heroes.

I was actually not expecting him to go shirtless in this movie, never mind looking that insanely ripped. I guess it makes sense rather than to assume he was just toning the hell out of his arms and chest. Well done, sir. Well done.

His physique seemed inconsistent throughout, I assumed when was jacked it was a body double or CGI
IAmAHoot
IAmAHoot - 8/4/2024, 7:28 PM
@Ryguy88 - He didn't need that shirtless physique for the entire shoot. Never mind that, there was also a 4-month pause in production due to the strike that surely mucked up a few things as far as their training goes.
Ryguy88
Ryguy88 - 8/4/2024, 8:21 PM
@IAmAHoot - that would make sense, he seemed pretty average build for 90% of the movie and then all of a sudden jacked for the finale.
Vigor
Vigor - 8/4/2024, 8:29 AM
I know he likely juiced for that physique. But it should still inspire many of the older of us lot around here. Old man bod doesn't have to be. We can still have low fat percentage AND muscle mass over 40

@Vigor - nothing wrong with a little testosterone boost if you arent a pro athlete.

Makes me want to see what else I missed?.

Can confirm this was indeed photoshopped, I was Jackman's body double on set.
