DOCTOR STRANGE Actor Mads Mikkelsen Was Up For Role In FANTASTIC FOUR, But Walked Out Of His Audition

Mads Mikkelsen is still many people's pick to play Doctor Doom in a Fantastic Four movie, and it turns out he actually was up for a role in Josh Trank's 2015 reboot, before bailing on his audition...

People have been fan-casting Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal, Doctor Strange, Rogue One) as Doctor Doom for years now, and it appears he may have come closer to playing the villain than we realized.

During an interview with ShortList, the actor admitted that he auditioned for a role in Josh Trank's disastrous 2015 reboot of Fantastic Four (he doesn't specify which character, but we're going to assume it was Doom until we're told otherwise... okay?), and realizing half-way through it that it felt "wrong."

I think I walked out on the Fantastic Four [audition]. I think I actually said, “I can’t do it. It’s not about you, I’m sorry, this is wrong.” I’ve had tons of them. We’ve all been there. We all show up and it’s a little office room with a desk and some books and they want you to do a scene where you have two lines – maybe not even two lines – maybe just “Bleurgh!” or “Get back!” And you’re hiding behind a palm tree that’s not there. It’s like, “Guys, couldn’t you have picked a different kind of scene to this? This is [frick]ing mad.” You feel like an idiot.

Again, we're not certain that Mikkelsen was auditioning to play Victor von Doom, but it's difficult to imagine he was up for anyone else in that ensemble. Then again, 20th Century Fox and Trank did ultimately cast the character (and the team) quite a bit younger, so who knows - perhaps it was Franklin Storm?

It's entirely possible Mikkelsen will get another chance to play the villainous Doom when the inevitable Fantastic Four reboot rolls around, though chances are he wouldn't want one!

@SpideyQuad - I'm not one who usually agrees with critics (I love Batman v Superman) but man Fantastic 4 was terrible!

@CWBNGAJEEPGUY85 - More importantly, why the [frick] does Mads Mikkelsen have to audition for shit like this? Everyone knows exactly what he brings to the table, either you want him or you don't.

@CapnSquintyEyes - I'll be honest, I'd never heard of him until Rogue One. And then I saw him in Doctor Strange. Dude has obvious talent
