DOCTOR STRANGE Actor Scott Adkins Wishes He'd Waited For A Shot At Kraven The Hunter In SPIDER-MAN - Exclusive

Martial artist and actor Scott Adkins recently spoke with us about his upcoming film Max Cloud, and when asked about his role in Doctor Strange, he told us he wished he had waited to play Kraven instead!

Scott Adkins is well known for his extensive martial arts background and his work alongside legendary action stars such as Jean Claude Van Damme. He stars as the titular character in the upcoming video game movie Max Cloud, which launches later this month.

During our exclusive interview with the actor, we asked about his role as Lucian the Zealot in Doctor Strange. However, he was quick to admit that he wished he had passed on the role and waited for a more prominent character in the Marvel Universe.

Luckily, the upcoming multi-verse plot spanning Spider-Man 3 and Doctor Strange in the Multi-Verse of Madness allow the opportunity for actors to play multiple roles/roles to be played by multiple actors. That especially excites Scott, who reveals that his grandmother bought him Spider-Man comics to help him learn to read. With the character so close to his heart, he has his eye on one role in particular: Kraven the Hunter.

"You know what, honestly, I wish I hadn't played that part. To be honest with you, I feel like, in hindsight, I probably should have waited for something better. I'm always too honest. This is probably going to be your headline, but you know what I mean? It's like the multi-verse, and they're going to bring back Lucian and the Zealots? I don't think they're going to do that. I should have waited for something better. They're making so many movies, I suppose they're going to have to regurgitate some actors and I'm barely recognizable. I mean, I had some dialogue, and they cut it out of the movie. It's like, 'thanks a lot guys.'

I'm a massive Marvel comic book fan, especially Spider-Man. Spider-Man was the one for me when I was a kid. I didn't do very well at school. I wasn't that interested in it. I was having trouble. I was behind with reading, apparently. So my grandmother would go and get the comic books. So every weekend would go to my Nan's and there'd be a load of Spider-Man comics. And yeah, I got well into Spider-Man, and he's always been the guy for me. I'd play Kraven the Hunter, apparently. With Yuri Boyka, there's a lot of Kraven going on in that guy. I mean, I'll pull that one off no problem. Come on. But I'll tell you how you get a part; you never publicly state that you want it. Because then you'll never get it. So I'm not playing with that. Headline: Scott Adkins doesn't want it."

Hear our entire chat with Scott on Literary Joe's Inner Child Podcast below. We've also included the poster, trailer, and synopsis for the upcoming Max Cloud movie.

When will the Kinnaman-type jokes cease to end?

@DARKSIDEIS - oh it won't if I have something to do with it

I don't really see him as Kraven (that's a Gerard Butler role imo), but it certainly would have been great if he had been utilized more in Doctor Strange or if he had been saved for a more memorable role; I do really enjoy Scott Adkins, dude's a beast.

You can fight Scott but...

Yeah, no Scott. You’re a great stuntman, but there’s a reason why your character in Doctor Strange had no lines.

Hugh Jackman, Pedro Pascal, Joe Manganiello and Jason Momoa would be my choices for Kraven.

I completely forgot he was even in Doctor Strange.

No thanks, but I’d watch a JCVD-style movie starring Scott Adkins, where he plays himself in a meta scenario where an ass-kicking action movie dude who complains a lot about not being taken seriously as an actor get mixed up in a melodramatic hostage scenario, or something similar. Michael Jai White could direct.

He makes a pretty valid point that actors who already had a role in the MCU are very unlikely to get another one later. For example, a pre-Doctor Who Jenna Coleman who only had a minor role on the first Captain America before having her star-making role. Now, it's very unlikely that she is even considered for another role.

As good as it was, Doctor Strange underutilized a lot of actors: him, Bratt, Stuhlbarg, and (to the point I almost forgot about him) Mikkelsen.

@WeaponXCII - absolutely. Mike lawn was too of a good actor to have a such a minor villain role. He definitely should’ve been someone huge like Dr. Doom.

What did he do in doctor strange? Lol I can't remember but honestly I don't know who he is. I do like his honesty though it's always refreshing for an actor

@MyCoolYoung - he was the right hand man to kaecilius, fought the ancient one in the beginning, fought strange and the cloak in the sanctum, and had the astral battle in the hospital. I was also surprised to learn he was half of "Deadpool" in X Origins

MyCoolYoung - 12/8/2020, 4:11 PM
@LiteraryJoe - which half? Lol

Just kidding about the which half. That's hilarious though. But now I remember him in Strange

I actually thought that was Ray Park in Doctor Strange... so, clearly a memorable role...

It shouldn't matter, Marvel should still offer him the part, because he is absolutely perfect for it!

Marvel is no stranger to re-using someone for another part. It can still happen

I barely remember the Zealots. They were possessed monkey men that had no real role aside from a small challenge for Dr. Strange. He could probably make the move to craven. I dont think any person that watches these movies is going to see him and think wasnt he a bad guy in a different movie?

Okay Scott, but you can't act.
