DOCTOR STRANGE 2 Rumored To Be Released By Marvel Studios In 2020

While we all thought that 2020 would see the release of Black Widow and The Eternals from Marvel Studios, a reliable source claims that Doctor Strange 2 is also rumoured for next year. Read on for details!

While we know that Marvel Studios was originally set to release Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 next year, the studio's 2020 (and beyond) slate has not yet been revealed and Kevin Feige has previously said that plans will become clear following the release of Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: Far From Home.

With the casting process for both The Eternals and Black Widow starting to heat up, we assumed they'd be the movies that would come our way next year, but Deadline has now shared a very interesting rumour.

During the trade's report on Disney's CinemaCon presentation, they note: "Not revealed — what the Marvel movies will be for 2020 for the new merger.  Word is that will come to reveal itself after Avengers: Endgame opens at the end of the month. Rumors have been that it’s Black Widow standalone movie and Doctor Strange 2."

It's thought that the screenplay for Doctor Strange 2 is done and ready to go, so it's feasible that could be rushed out for 2020. As for The Eternals, it's bound to be a CGI heavy affair and the casting process has only just started, so it being pushed back to 2021 might ultimately be for the best.

Nothing has been confirmed as of right now but we'll be sure to keep you guys updated.

Yes! Love Dr. Strange. Let's see Clea.

@Indoorsman - Yes, Marvel needs to stick to love interests that can naturally take part in the lead’s adventures. Clean is a must.

“Clea”. Damn autocorrect.

@Indoorsman - Have I mentioned lately that I really want them to cast Natalie Dormer and retroactively make this scene a Clea cameo?

@Spock0Clock - great choice for Clea

So they're going back to two movies a year? If I had to guess, we'll get Strange at the end of August and Widow in November. That would leave a longer than usual gap after Endgame, which would be fitting. Not including Spidey of course.

@IronDean2099 - I wouldn't be surprised if Black Widow is getting a July release and Doctor Strange a November release

@IronDean2099 - I think Disney has to split their releases with Fox & Sony now. X-Force and Mobius are going to make up for the 3rd marvel movie in 2020. Isn't Spiderman FFH technically a Sony movie? So even this year it's really just 2 marvel movies.

@mastakilla39 - X-Force? In 2020. I'm not saying that's impossible, but 2020 is next year. If they wanted it out by then, they'd need to start shooting it this year. And before that, they'd need to put the cast together, and before then the need to start building sets, and before then they would need to do concept work, pre-viz, and get a script that they liked.

@IronDean2099 - It would have been 3 movies if Disney hadn't screwed up the release schedule for Guardians 3...

@MalseMarcel - That also makes sense. Just not sure that a Widow movie is going to have the same summer spectacle vibe of most of the other Marvel movies. A covert Russian spy doesn't exactly scream summer blockbuster,, but then again it is ScarJo.

@mastakilla39 - I'm not sure that's the way it's going to work. Spider-Man counts as an MCU release but Venom didn't, so either will Morbius. They'll come out independently and regardless of how many MCU movies come out. And I'm not sure how X Force is going to work in a world where, potentially, Deadpool exists but the X Men haven't formally been introduced. I feel like the X Men need to be established on screen and in universe before X force can really work, so maybe that will be on the backburner. Having said that however, maybe X Force is the perfect vehicle to both bring in Deadpool and massage in the greater X Men canon...

@IronDean2099 - That's a misconception. Even though Marvel is making FFH it's a Sony film. Sony just pays Marvel to make it for them and set it in the MCU. Sony still distributes all Spider-Man films in theaters and at home because they own the rights. Sony still collects all the money from his solos and reports it in their quarterly earnings, not Disney. Sony chose to release the trailer for Far From Home even before Endgame's release because they ultimately don't care how it will effectsEndgame's story or box office performance. But Sony's marketing did take studio notes from Marvel this time to avoid Endgame spoilers.

X-Force does not need the X-Men nor will it affect their story. X-force is just going to be like DP 2 except its going to be more team centric rather than DP. It in the vain of DP will not effect anything the MCU is working on, it's just a fun filler like the DP films has always been. I don't think X-Force is going to have any ties to the MCU's X-Men reboot because Deadpool is supposed to be made at a new r-rated sub-label that won't be managed by Feige or Marvel. I think colossus, yukio, and negasonic are still "x-men and x-men trainees" but we just won't see them at the x-mansion or in the black bird anymore. I don't think we will see any major characters like Wolverine or Iron Man appearances either.

@Deonox - DP & X-Men films have always been made and released every 2 years at Fox since Wolverine Origins. If it follows the Fox-men schedule it should be out by next summer. Drew Goddard has been writing the script since 2018, so it should be ready to film once Disney gives them a budget. The DP franchise is supposed to be made and filmed at a lower budget so they take less time to film and post compared to Marvel or DC films. Casting & production design shouldn't be an issue because they are still going to be working with the same cast & crew from DP2. The only delay is Disney trying to manage a new studio and securing a release date that won't effect their films.

@mastakilla39 - But the entire point of X Force is a covert ops team to do the stuff the regualr X Men can't because they're too public. How can that be the case if there is no public X Men team? It could still be done, but it completely takes the wind out of the sails in my opinion.

@IronDean2099 - DP 2 murdered a bunch of original members from the X-Force comic already. X-Force isn't going to be any different or any more accurate than DP & DP2 were. There are bound to be changes to the source material. Deadpool's characterization is already sorta different in the movies. He's too "heroic" and nice compared to his anti-hero and mean comic book counter part.

X-force is going to loosely follow the source material IMO.

Wouldn’t be that much of a rush if they released it in November of 2020, assuming that they have a script that they like. We always assume that the first we hear of something is the start of it, but who knows how far along their various projects are at this point?

Just because I'm so happy.

First Captain Marvel hitting 1 billion worldwide, Avenger: Endgame in a few weeks, then Spider-Man: Far From Home. Life is GREAT :)

So Black Widow and Doctor Strange 2 in 2020, that could possibly be mean Eternals and Black Panther 2 in 2021 right? Or are they still doing three a year?
KWilly
KWilly - 4/4/2019, 4:36 AM
@MalseMarcel - Heck, we may get to the point where 4 movies a year is possible. Because Spidey still needs his threequel by 2021, Captain Marvel needs a sequel, along with GOTG3 and maybe even Ant Man. And that's without F4 in the equation right now.
bkmeijer2
bkmeijer2 - 4/4/2019, 4:42 AM
@KWilly - I think Captain Marvel 2 and GotG 3 will hit the big screen in 2022. And maybe in 2021 or 2022 Spider-Man 3, but I guess that depends on when and if they're doing the Shang-Chi movie
