Kevin Feige Explains Why DOCTOR STRANGE's Sorcerers Haven't Intervened In Previous MCU Adventures

If the Sorcerers of the Kamar-Taj are all that powerful, why haven't they intervened in events like the Chitauri invasion? Kevin Feige answers that and addresses Doctor Strange's role in the MCU moving forward...

Doctor Strange is going to reveal a whole new side to the Marvel Cinematic Universe when we pay a visit to The Ancient One's home and meet her disciples of Kamar-Taj, but why exactly haven't that group - whose job it is to essentially protect reality itself - made their presence known during possible world ending events like the invasion of the Chitauri army or HYDRA's rise to power? It turns out that there's an answer for that, and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige provided it in a chat with Collider

"There are people inhabiting the same world that are stopping buildings from falling down, robots from doing this, aliens from doing that – these people in this movie are stopping inter-dimensional forces from wiping out all of reality," he explained, pointing out that they're too busy to worry about what The Avengers are up to. "So although it doesn’t necessarily come up, we’ve always assumed that the sorcerers have bigger fish to fry when they hear there’s something in a city  or there’s a bank being robbed. They’re not thinking about it. They’re thinking if we don’t keep vigilant our sense of reality will disappear, and there won’t be a bank to rob and there won’t be a city to be conquered."

That's a pretty convincing explanation, and one which should stop fans from worrying too much about what these Sorcerers have been getting up to these past few years. As for what's next for Doctor Strange, it doesn't sound like we should expect to see him become the next "Science Bro" by spending his time chilling out with various members of Earth's Mightiest Heroes. "I don’t think he does a lot of hanging out, necessarily. No, he usually gets involved when – as I said, he’s not going to intervene in the bodega crime down the street. But as things get bigger and as threats get bigger he can serve a very good purpose and can make his presence known."

Well, Avengers: Infinity War it is then...

The character posters are neck-bending. Literally. Movie looks like it's gonna be incredible. Too bad exams are gonna start the same time as this movie comes out. [frick] college life.

Sound comic book reasoning.

Hard to argue with that internally, or from the source material. Maybe Hulk and Wanda will pop over to the Sanctum for the sequel, though, and have a Defendersy thing going on.

I'm really hoping Vision doesn't get his head ripped off by Thanos. Just have him take the Mind Stone from out of Vision's head, and leave Vision all white and Byrned for a while. Bettany's take is really starting to grow on me.

Honestly, the criticism of the Avengers not helping each other in their solo movies is the dumbest criticism. It's like people aren't aware that most superheroes have their own comic lines and fight on their own most of the time. Not everyone has to be everywhere at once

Makes sense. I feel like the sorcerers know that the true protection, what maybe matters most, is the protection of our REALITY. What's on the surface is best left to the Avengers.

When Thanos comes our reality is at stake so it makes sense for Strange to interveme thn. Even the Ancient One.

One Rule I feel needs to be adopted to when Watching these Films...
...Don't Worry About Where Everyone Else Is In The Stand Alone Movies.

- When Helcarriers are destroying Washington, Should Iron Man be there? Of course.
- When Batman is going to be tossed into Arkham, Should Superman be there? Definitely.
- When Spider-Man is fighting someone in Queens/Manhattan...should the Defenders be there? You Bet.

Will any of them be? No.

Just accept it.

It will avoid poorly constructed answers like Mr. Feige had to give...and even further poorly constructed supportive statements from the fans.

@IronGenesis -

Not sure how Kevin's answer is poor? They have different and bigger problems to deal with. How is that not enough? Only time the "where's help" question came up was Iron Man 3 & Winter Soldier.
Tony used his apparent death to stay under radar, also wouldn't even know what to tell anyone if he asked for help, needing to find the Mandarin then find and figure out what the hell Killian was up too.
Winter Soldier they needed to keep communications tight and trust no one. You bet Hydra could pick up Cap calling Tony for help. By the time shit went down Tony would have needed to fly from NY to Washington DC to provide any help.
And depending on how big of trouble Spider-man gets in I doubt he has any Defenders on speed dial and they will most likely be dealing with their problems during that time. Defenders is supposed to come out next year I think, same as Spidey.
They even made fun of this in Ant-man while giving a reason "First thing we should do is call the Avengers" "Stark can't be trusted."
