Marvel Moving Forward With Dr Strange

Marvel Moving Forward With Dr Strange

Word is that the script has been handed in and a shortlist of directors put together. No names as of yet, but Twitchfilm reckon the movie is now on track for a 2013 release...

Seen by many as a second tier character in the Marvel Universe, Dr Stephen Strange is nonetheless one of it's most popular. And fans have been crying out for Marvel Studious to give The Sorcerer Supreme the big screen treatment for years now. Last we had heard Thomas Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer were brought in to draft a script, but aside from the likes of Kevin Feige and Stan Lee confirming that the wheels were in motion, we haven't had anything else solid until now.

From Twitchfilm..

Twitch has learned that Oppenheimer and Donnelly have now turned in their script and Marvel is pushing forward with the property. Marvel has drafted a short list of directors to approach on the title and is forwarding the current script to each to try and sign someone up to 'oversee continued development'.

If this is on the level, and you can pretty much bet it is, expect a look at that shortlist soon enough. Twitch feel that Marvel's commitment to the character means we could see the movie released sometime in 2013. Guess we shall see. Aside from Patrick Dempsey, no one has really thrown their hat in the ring to play Dr Strange. Who do you guys think would do a good job?

A 2013 release? Really? Thor, Iron Man 3, Man of Steel AND Dr Strange? Can't help but think that they're flooding the market with Superhero movies. They need to slow down abit.

This will be Marvel's answer to Harry Potter. Wouldn't it be awesome if Doctor Strange became the next HP?

I just think that with now 4 competitors in the Superhero market right now (FOX, WB, Disney and Sony) the public's gonna get sick of them, regardless of quality. And law of averages suggests that there are going to be failures and stinkers.

Exactly my point, 2012 is already packed, and now so is 2013. Are we gonna get 4 superhero movies a year? Not including the Daredevil or Wolverine movies whenever they'll come out. As well as any sequels to First Class and Deadpool. Doesn't it all seem like too much?

As long as they are well directed bring it on. CBM's are in their own genre like comedies horror movies etc. There's no reason why they can't have a bunch made within a year. Just don't try to make them all summer movies, and change up the plots.

You nerds (me included) spend all day on a comic book movie website and you complain about the market being over saturated?? Ridulous! I wish they released one every Friday as long as they keep putting out great films!

Don't know much bout Strange, but I don't think he's worthy of his own movie, I think, whether the movie shit, or amazing, it will pull a Green Lantern cause no one knows who he is.

i don't have high hopes for this at all. in fact i sense the first flop of Marvel Studios.

i just can't envision how this can be properly marketed in a way in which it makes it look interesting to those who aren't fans of the character already. i am a Marvel fan and I don't even really want to see a Dr Strange movie.

these studios need to stop building up potential franchises with characters that aren't known. that is one thing killing the CBM box office numbers.

Dr Strange, Green Lantern and other lesser known characters are not the ones to build up, especially when there are characters like Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Arrow, that have been needing adaptations, and are known and have fan bases built in.

NO WAY to Johnny Depp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I dont want him ANYWHERE NEAR a Marvel CBM!!!!!!!!!!

and the fact that Green Lantern bombed was not due to the fact that no one knew the character, gambitfreak .

CorndogBurglar - 8/1/2011, 11:17 AM
@ gambitfreak

if the trailer is good, and has crazy special effects, (which it should) then people will go see it. it's not just another super hero movie. this is magic, its something that Marvel hasn't done yet. it could be huge.

@PaulRom: Dont you mean the other way around since Dr. Strange came out 34 years before Harry Potter did?
