Avengers: Infinity War is fast approaching and while there are a lot of reasons to be excited about the Marvel Studios movie, many fans are seriously psyched about getting to spend time with specific characters. Chief among them is Doctor Strange, a hero who popped up briefly in Thor: Ragnarok but hasn't been properly seen since his solo movie was released to much success back in 2016.
The Sorcerer Supreme is expected to have a meaty role in the superhero ensemble (especially as he has an Infinity Stone hanging around his neck) but we're now looking back at his own outing.

These alternate designs make for fascinating viewing, especially as it quickly becomes clear that these characters could have looked so much different had Marvel gone down a different path...
Doctor Strange
This version of the Sorcerer Supreme's outfit is a lot closer to what we're used to seeing in the comic books and while it's a look which could have worked on screen, it's still a little too "costume-y."
Putting the hero all in blue is definitely interesting but losing the visual of that striking red cloak would have been a shame. It is, however, interesting seeing how much his look could have differed.
These gorgeous pieces of keyframe art offer an interesting look at how the Sorcerer Supreme was brought to life and while these costumes differ from the final product, they're starting to take shape.
Stephen Strange's Cloak of Levitation takes on a personality of its own in Doctor Strange but here we get to see a lot of alternate takes on that, including some which are definitely really out there.
More very different designs for Doctor Strange, these are all cool and it's going to be interesting seeing if the Sorcerer Supreme's look is drastically altered when his sequel is finally released.
Baron Mordo
Baron Mordo is, of course, a villain in the comics and seemingly embarks down that dark path in the after-credits scene. Here, we see him looking a lot more like that version from the source material.
Mordo's costume in Doctor Strange wasn't exactly bland but it could have definitely been better and it's easy to pick out some much better versions than what we got in the images you see above.
This is a very interesting look for Mordo as he actually looks a lot more like a monk as opposed to a warrior. That would have been fun to see but it would have arguably changed the plot somewhat.
Even though Marvel gender-swapped The Ancient One in Doctor Strange, the studio still faced backlash for what many perceived to be whitewashing! Here, we see some more traditional Asian looks.
Well, these are pretty out there! Marvel clearly wanted to explore some wacky designs for the character and those purple costumes are very interesting (she also looks younger in a few pieces).
Aside from the fact that The Ancient One has hair, these are pretty accurate to what we ended up seeing in the movie and Marvel made a wise choice by utilising yellow as it's really striking.

This piece first started doing the rounds quite some time before Doctor Strange was released and it provided us with a great idea of what the Sorcerer Supreme would ultimately look like on screen.
