A recent listing by an Australian theater chain asserted that Marvel's Doctor Strange would be clocking in at 130 minutes.  This listing gained traction around the internet thanks to a post by /Film and became such a large talking point that director Scott Derrickson eventually had to address it.  In short, it's not true.

At 2 hrs and 10 minutes, the purported runtime would have been one of Marvel's longest films to date, just behind Avengers: Age of Ultron (2 hrs and 21 minutes) and Captain America: Civil War (2 hrs and 27 minutes). What do you think is an appropriate amount of time to tell Stephen Strange's origin story?  Let us know in the comment section below.

For a film like this?

2 hours. Flat.

Marvel is cagey with runtimes. Only Avengers (or Avengers-like) films get to have "long" runtimes.

I feel like Scott Derrickson isn't as "plugged into" the Marvel Family as directors like Reed, Gunn, and the Russos.

Maybe it will feel like he is once the press junkets for Strange start happening.

But right now, he feels more like a one-and-done.

A good 2 hours should be enough to tell a cohesive story and build a universe.

I always like these CBMs to be 120-140 mins personally. Just so they can feel a little less rushed and flesh out everything before you have to wait for the inevitable sequel in a year or two.

Origins should be long, imo...flesh out the story more, and give the villains & side characters proper arcs. I hope it's around 130..125 maybe, or longer.

So it may be shorter? Like the Russian in Affleck's best movie said, "Is this good or bad".
