A Doctor Who Reboot

A Doctor Who Reboot

What if the BBC came to me and said “Hey JorEllinator, we know you haven’t got your degree yet, we know you’re not even planning to go into filmmaking, we know that you’re 100% not qualified for this but we want you to make a Doctor Who reboot movie”? You never know, it may happen.

DIRECTOR:

Peter Jackson

Peter Jackson is a true fan of Doctor Who. He says he’ll direct anything Doctor Who, a movie or episode. The best thing about it is that he’ll do it for not money but just to keep a Dalek prop. Jackson has a sense of scale like no other director which is great for the story I’m telling, which shows many stories from Doctor Who.

STORY/PREMISE:

The movie will be an anthology of sorts, it will include all of the Doctors. With a story tying all of the Doctors together. It’d be a kind of Sci-Fi epic where he keeps on meeting River Song, Amy and Rory and he sees them to their deaths. I’d have all of the Doctors because I’d want a showcase of all of these great actors and the actors I have chosen can consistently pass on the emotions and thoughts from the last Doctor and have a different take while still seeming like the same person. I also would love River Song flirting around with the older Doctors and saying “I prefer the good looking ones”.

WRITERS:

Steven Moffat, Mark Gatiss and Peter Jackson

I think the show is in better hands with Moffat and I prefer him to Davies as showrunner. Gatiss is the writer that I want to take over from Moffat and he has written some of my favourite stories, most recently “Cold War” and “The Crimson Horror”. Peter Jackson is a good writer, he’d keep these two writers on the movie track and less like a TV episode.

FANCAST:

THE DOCTORS:

Sir Patrick Stewart as the 1st Doctor
The grumpy old man of the Doctors. I had chosen Pat Stewart as the1st Doctor based on his performance as Captain Picard and Ebenezer Scrooge. Fantastic actor!
Others Considered:

Ian McKellan

Sir Ian McKellan as the 2nd Doctor
I chose this Doctor based on his performance as Gandalf the Grey. As the 1st Doctor was the grumpy old Granddad, this Doctor is the kind old Granddad who buys you stuff. McKellan is a very versatile actor and would be great as the Cyberman fighting cosmic hobo.
Others considered:

Patrick Stewart

Hugh Laurie as the 3rd Doctor
This was honestly the hardest to pick out of the first three, I could not find a lot of people that could fit the bad-ass 007,”I’m better than you” Doctor. I chose Hugh Laurie because he isn’t too old to be doing kung-fu and he has the “I’m better than you” attitude from House.
Other considered:

Liam Neeson

Benedict Cumberbatch

Stephen Fry as the 4th Doctor
This one was a no brainer, this guy would be a perfect fourth Doctor and maybe even a good seventh Doctor. Stephen Fry is a great actor and can play the Fourth Doctor excellently.

Others considered:

None

Martin Freeman as the 5th Doctor
A great actor, he would be prefect.
Others considered:

James McAvoy

Benedict Cumberbatch as the 6th Doctor
I know he’s a bit young but he’d be great as the psychotic Doctor. The OCD, crazy should be locked away in Arkham Doctor. Sounds like Sherlock!
Others considered:

Hugh Laurie

Mark Gatiss as the 7th Doctor
What!? A writer also an actor!? I believe he can be the calculating chess master that Sylvester McCoy potrayed. Have you noticed the 3 in a row Sherlock actors?

Hugh Grant as the 8th Doctor
Paul McGann has said that Hugh Grant was his inspiration for the 8th Doctor, as the romantic Doctor who just likes to kiss. Hugh Grant is a great actor, he may be a tad too old but he looks young for his age.
Other Considered:

None

Michael Fassbender as the 9th Doctor
His performance as Magneto in X-Men first Class was the deciding factor, two Magnetos on my list, funny.
Others considered:

James Nesbitt

Ewan McGregor as the 10th Doctor
All of the Tennant fan girls scream and shoot themselves... good. McGregor would be the best choice, he is a brilliant actor and has the chops to do this.
Others considered:

Jude Law

FINALLY... (For the Doctors)

James McAvoy as the 11th Doctor
Two Xaviers! Two Magnetos! McAvoy is a great actor and is more than capable of playing this character. Take a look at the part where he’s flirting with the girl in the bar in First Class.

Amy, Rory and River:

Rupert Grint as Rory Williams/Pond
Rory Williams and Ron Weasley are very much alike. At the start they were nothing more than the everyday cowards tagging along. By the end these two were absolute badasses, Rory became my favourite male companion.

Others considered:

None

Lena Headey as River Song
My choice for Wonder Woman would be perfect for River. She’s a total badass as seen in the Terminator TV show and Dredd.
Others considered:

None

Finally... (For real this time)

Emma Watson as Amy Pond/Williams
Yes, Hermione Granger as Amy. This was hard, as I couldn’t think of any young British actors. I unfortunately could not find a Scottish one but Watson’s a good enough actress, she can fake an accent.
Others considered:

None

Hope you liked it.

1st comment of yours:
Did I say it needed a reboot?
No
It's supposed to be a "What if?" not a "This should happen" On the comment about Eccleston, Tennant and Smith, this is supposed to be an entire RECAST. As well as this, aren't you the one that's always telling people NOT to use Cavill in their JLA fancasts? Make up your mind, please.

2nd comment of yours:
It's supposed to be OUT OF CONTINUITY! Hence the term REBOOT!

3rd:
No, of course not. This would be a big movie since Peter Jackson had something to do with it.

@SuperDude001

Yes, because casting lesser known actors is what Doctor Who is all about, great stories, fun characters and excellent showcase of different genres has absolutely nothing to do with it. Yes, if Doctor Who had none of these, it'd be the same thing as it was before. The name wouldn't shadow the role, these are good enough actors to become the role. When I watch TNG, I don't think "Patrick Stewart as Jean Luc Picard" I think "Jean Luc Picard". When I watch the X-Men movies, Patrick Stewart becomes Xavier and so does James McAvoy. Besides, not all of my roles are super well known, like Mark Gatiss . A lot of the general audience wouldn't know who Stephen Fry is or Lena Headey.

@ SuperDude001
I thank you for backing up your answers, unlike our little friend who happens to be a fan of The Joker. I had chosen Amy, Rory and River because the general audience would identify with them. Doctor Who boomed in 2011 on BBC America during Series 6, I also felt that they fit with the story I would have wanted to tell. I wouldn't say much bad about Moffats female companions compared to Davies.

Rose Tyler was a selfish brat who had no regard for her family ( Aliens of London, Boom Town) unless they are dead. She uses her boyfriend and is angry at him after he moves on from her after 6 months.

Martha Jones, though an alright companion was only a rebound girl for Rose and when she finally starts to grow as a character, she leaves. When she was a badass and a member of UNIT she wasn't even a regular companion.

Donna Noble was the only companion that had some kind of a character arc and she became one of my favourite companions. Davies only had 1 of 3 good main cast companions.

Amy Pond was a woman who was in love with the Doctor but then she got over him and saw what was right in front of her (Rory). She grew into a heroine and was a strong character. I was sad to see her go.

River Song was a wild, flirty girl who just liked to have fun but had a call to action. I found her to be over used in series 7 but she's still a great companion.

Clara Oswald is a woman that the Doctor only travelled with to find out her mystery. She grew as a character to the point that without the mystery, he still would travel with her (but you can say that about anyone, since he travelled with Rose and Adric). Moffat had 2 of 3 good ones, maybe 3 of 3.

No! This should not ever happen, not even in a what-if scenario. Doctor Who is meant for television and should not be remade into a movie or rebooted!

A thumbs up for casting Emma Watson though :)
