FANCAST: The Justice League Movie: Plausible Cast and Costumes

A little more than a month ago, Variety reported that Warner Bros. has not only started scripting for a Justice League film, but it is also starting to promote the team through other media (video games, direct-to-video movies, DC Nation). That shouldn't come as any surprise after the monumental success of Marvel/Disney's The Avengers. And fans are now anxiously anticipating more news of a Justice League film. Fancasts are through the roof! Here we'll explore some casting possibilities for a Justice League film to come.

Cast

The Avengers film struggled to balance screen time for 6 heroes in a 2 hour movie. If the Justice League is at all similar (which I hope it is), they'll keep the team roster small and character driven. They'll also want big names to sell the movie, and they'll want diversity to keep audiences from feeling that the Justice League has been "white-washed." So who do I think makes the final cut?

Superman

It would be a wise choice to keep Henry Cavill (6'1") in the role of Superman so that the audience from "Man of Steel" is willing to give Justice League a shot. His Superman will no doubt be a box office draw similar to Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man.

Batman

Christian Bale has already stated publicly that he doesn't want to play Batman another time--which makes sense after his performance in The Dark Knight rises. And Christopher Nolan does not want his films to be in the same world as a Justice League film.
The Justice League film will probably be the spring board for a new Batman franchise, so casting the character is not only vital to the Justice League franchise, it's also vital to the Batman franchise. The only actor who I could see WB going with is Ryan Gosling (6'1"). He's had plenty of bad boy roles in films like "Drive" and "Crazy, Stupid, Love." And he's set to kick butt in Will Beals's Gangster Squad. With some hair dye, he'd be perfect for the role.

Wonder Woman

This one is another given. She's the most well known superheroine in comics. I could see Gemma Arterton (5'7") in the role if she hits the gym to get a tougher physique. She's already proven that she can play a badass in the Prince of Persia and Quantum of Solace, which helps. She's also just a great actress which is the important part. The person who portrays Wonder Woman should be able to carry a solo film on her own. Most of the other alternatives (i.e. Gina Carano) put forth for the role just don't make much sense for these reasons.

Green Lantern

WB will no doubt include Hal Jordan due to his television show and his previous film. He's got name recognition. But we should say goodbye to Ryan Reynolds. I thought that he made a good Hal, but his film was a little sub par. WB needs to break ties with that film, and pulling a Hulk-like switch would help. Chris Pine (6'1") would be a great fit for the role. Just check him out in Star Trek and Unstoppable. He can bring humor and gravitas to a character who needs redemption.

Cyborg

Cyborg's a well known character who's been on numerous DC related shows since the 1980s like Galactic Guardians and Smallville. He made his debut as a Justice League founder in the New52. Because he is the least well known of the 6, he'll be the Black Widow of the film--the delightful surprise that will have fans clamoring for a spinoff. Not only that, but do to the nature of his powers, Cyborg is the key to recruiting new Justice League members (which would give Warner more franchises to play with i.e. Hawkman, Shazam, Aquaman, Firestorm, Martian Manhunter, etc.) Up-and-comer Chadwick Boseman(6'1"), who is set to star alongside Harrison Ford in the Jackie Robinson bio-pic 42, would be perfect for the role. He has a pretty good acting pedigree (the guy got a scholarship to study acting in London!), and he has the look and build for the role.

I wouldn't pick Smulders for Wonder Woman. She's great and all, but she was in the Avengers and she better stay with Marvel. I don't think Maria Hill's role is done yet, she has many things yet to offer there.
And I hate it when the same actor plays in both studios. Especially at the same time.

Pretty good. Here are some of my alt. picks though -

Batman - Jim Caviezel or Joe Manganiello
Wonder Woman - Gina Carano
Green Lantern - Ryan Reynolds (I'm fine with Hammer if WB decide to replace Reynolds, though)
Cyborg - Michael B. Jordan

Jensen Ackles for Batman.

I much prefer the Cyborg Costume in your image! DC should use it in comics, movies, cartoons, and games. He actually looks hi tech instead of like something that came out of the 1980s.

I also agree with your casting choices. Good work.

I love that Cyborg suit! He needs to have that in the movie. He looks like half man half robot and. Not half of a face of a man and all the rest robot.

Your cast is decent, but Ryan gosling would make a better flash, Chris Pine is my choice for GL though.

Chris doesn't fit barry's personality, Barry is the more timid hero of the JLA, Hal I think sld stay as Ryan Reynolds. Other then that, this a GREEEEEAT cats! I love your Batman pick!

I think 5 members is more than enough Superman, Bats, WW, GL and Flash, Cyborg could fit in but would take too much time to establish his origin and joining the team.
I think Reynolds should continue as Hal Jordan, but with proper direction this time, not act as Van Wilder the whole movie.
I like your Wonder Woman pick
I don't agree with Gossling as Batman, but then again, NO ONE is worthy of being Batman, Bale is my favourite actor and I still don't see him as Batman, they should CGI him with Kevin Conroy's Voice:)))
Pine is a very good actor, maybe not the best choice, but I think he can pull it off, looking the part doesn't hurt either.
Good article

Not crazy about it man.

Superman-Cavill
Batman-Fassbender
Wonder Woman-Carano
Green Lantern- Duhamel OR Bomer
Aquaman-Hedlund
Cyborg-Okenyi

Those are my and Winding's picks for the JLA.

@CaptainNotBritain
It's Wingding not Winding, ho! Lol ;P

@lucwiz50
I'm not a big fan of some of the choices. Can't see Robin, I mean COBIE as WW because she is in Marvel already and because she isn't Wonder Woman-y enough......if that makes sense. Also I can't at all see Gosling as Batman. The rest I don't dislike but I like other people better for the roles. Just my opinion though. But it's YOUR fan cast and I applaud you for being farely original! I will give you Pine as Flash. I'm glad SOMEONE agrees with me on that choice. Don't listen to all the peer pressure saying that he should be GL, lol. And Perlman as Darkseid, also my choice.

Great job on the cast man!

Wrong BATMAN, GOSLING doesn't fit him at all!
Too pretty boy and blond.

ARMIE HAMMER would have made an excellent
SUPERMAN at 6'5". But he's too tall for GL.
CAVILL is only 6'1". Have to put shorter
actors around him to make him look taller,
as SUPERMAN.

COBY SMULDERS is not good for WONDER
WOMAN. She really fits at MARVEL as MARIA HILL.

MEHCAD BROOKS (6'3")would be good for CYBORG
if the SUPERMAN actor was taller, like
ARMIE HAMMER. But he's not good to go with a
CAVILL SUPERMAN.

I like CYBORG in THE JL but I still would prefer
MARTIAN MANHUNTER in the 1st JL movie.

CHRIS PINE would make an excellent GL/HAL JORDAN
but he's not blond/blond-complexioned enough for
BARRY ALLEN/THE FLASH. BARRY ALLEN is VERY BLOND
and more reserved than CHRIS PINE'S persona.

PERLMAN would be fine for DARKSEID.

Not a terrible fancast just not very fitting
actors except for CAVILL & PERLMAN.

@DDD: Superman is not the tallest Superhero in the Justice League...

Cyborg- 6'5"
Superman- 6'3"
Batman- 6'2"
Green Lantern- 6'2"
Aquaman- 6'1"
Wonder Woman- 6'0"
Flash- 5'10"
lucwiz50
lucwiz50 - 8/17/2012, 6:02 AM
@DDD: So Cyborg SHOULD be taller than Superman.
Knight
Knight - 10/3/2012, 4:04 PM
Uhhh, GL is NOT 6'2", even DC themselves got that wrong. He's 6'0". And Wonder Woman is 5'11" not 6'0".

Anyways, good choices. I'd pick Ian Somerholder for Bats, reverse the GL/Flash roles cause Chris Pine would play a much better GL than the guy you picked IMO. So long Ron voices a CGI Darksied, no problem with him and no comment on Cyborg since I believe he shouldn't even be in the JLA (He belongs with the Teen Titans).
SpikerStriker
SpikerStriker - 11/13/2012, 5:48 AM
@Knight: Somerhalder is an actor who should stay on TV. Chris Pine would be a great Barry Allen--go watch Just My Luck.

SpikerStriker - 11/13/2012, 5:50 AM
@ Knight: Cyborg has been an amazing addition to the Justice League! He adds tech and gravity to the League. I want him to be in the movie.

And I want him to get his own comic book already!

Great casting choices--especially for a Justice League film set in the Man of Steel universe. I'm still geeking out over that trailer! I approve 100% of all these choices. The fact that all the guys are easy on the eyes and can act doesn't hurt. :D
