MARVEL's Spiderman FANCAST by the (Soul Eater)

With it being up in the air whether Spiderman will remain with SONY or return to MARVEL and his makers, I have comprised a fancast of what might just put our wall crawler back in business

We want Marvel to get our beloved Web Slinger back where  he belongs in the hands of Stan Lee and with the rest of his assembling friends to take part in Civil Wars, and Infinity Wars, and stand in the spotlight with those who deserve to be in it due to granted portrayal.

I know in fact that there is a chance Sony may retain the rights to the wall crawler and it has me hopping mad, but one thing that helped cool me down was to honestly consider what it would be like if there was another shot at portraying the friendly neighborhood hero in the light he deserves.

Not a Reboot of his origin, nort just his franchise, this is a do over of his appeal , and the heart of the wall crawler himself.

I'm talking meeting him in the middle of the action with him already being Spiderman when the movie takes place, and us only refering to Uncle Ben and his "Great Power" speeches in flash back.  If anything like how Tim Burton's BATMAN only dwelt so long on his parents death to give more time to the Bat, and Nicholsen

Now, for this new invisioning, I say a Director who knows how to convey and bring out character development in likable characters is needed, which is what I felt was lacking in AMAZING SPIDERMAN's 1 and 2 with exceptions of characters like Harry or Gwen.

For this I choose Francis Lawrence with works such as Hunger Games: Catching Fire and Mocking Jay under his belt, as well as I AM LEGEND with Will Smith in which you are endeered to one man throughout an entire movie...and in NY CITY of all places and knew how to shoot the metropolis in a way that intrigued you.  The scenes that were meant to be dramatic were, and the intense moments had you on the edge  of your seat.

Simon Dugan with such recognizable works as I, Robot to capture the swinging motion of Spiderman vaulting through narrow spaces in mid air and be able to follow his movement while in transit

For Screenwriterrs , I'm going to say garner the talents of Simon Beaufoy , who has written aclaimed projects such as the amazing dialguoe of Slumdogdog  Millionare, 127 Hours, and Hunger Games: Catching Fire

For Stunts I choose Chris Carnel, the coreographer of Captain America: WINTER SOLDIER

AND NOW FOR CASTING

As I  said, I want a Spiderman (And hopefully Marvel does as well) who above all meshes well with the already established Avengers ensamble and has good chemistry with them, but also makes sense in his own movie/universe.

For this I'm seeing a still young looking Peter Parker who has been Spiderman long ENOUGH to have lost his Uncle,  and even Gwen, but is still new enoug that he feels out of his league and caught off guard when rubbing elbows with the AVENGERS of all people

The kind who'd be on the ceiling of Stark Tower in an attempt to get a selfie with himself and the Avengers bellow him on the floor before Vision tells him to get down.

For a YOUNG Peter Parker that can still pull his weight amongst some major star power and if anything is remanicent of the Spiderman from SPECTACULAR SPIDERMAN (a grossly under rated show)   I choose DYLAN O'BRIAN.   From Maze Runner, and Teen Wolf, he has shown his chops as a young actor  and could definately pull off the NY born web slinger well, and sell the "New Kid" vibe i think needed on the team, as well as be routable and funny in his own movie which ever came first.

For his one and only Aunt May-Parker, I choose Jamie Lee Curtis as the much more "touch cookie" version of the character.  One who isn't shy of giving him a good gib smack for being a moron, but the warm hug at the end is no less genuine, and her words of wisdom aren't text book, they're practical and make you reflect on your life...as the audience.

For Mary-Jane Watson, I choose Jane Levy from Shameless, Subergatory, and the Evil Dead remake.

I've seen her acting and she's top notch and could most certainly knock the role of the street wise, common sensical red head who loves her wall crawler out of the park.   She's got the Charisma to get you smiling like a dumb sheep, but then can slam on the breaks and make you take her seriously with the command she has in a scene.

And she's stunning to boot.

NOW for a choice that I'm actually proud of.   And I gave this the deepest thought.

For Norman Osborn, the Green Goblin, I wanted the perfect storm of my favorite aspects of the character.

The three sides of: Mr. Osborne the serious, cold and calculating but intimidatingly smart business man.   Norman, the endeering father figure, ominous as he may seem being so, with the charisma that could sway a room with the right words.  And the GOBLIN, the sadistic devil of a being who will terrify you with what he's capable of more than what he even does...and then he does it...but only after describing it to you.

I believe I have an actor who can hit the nail on the head with each of those 3 vital sides to Spiderman's arch nemesis....

I give you Breaking Bad's Giancarlo Esposito.

I ask you, all of you, tell me that this man (For those of you who know his work) can't play a chilling Mr. Osborne AND Green Goblin....

He can be cold, he can be insideous, he can be a sadist, hell he's even portrayed a drag murderer. He can convey a loving father to Harry AND Peter one minute and be grinning with glee in the face of someone he's empaling the next...even if it 's Peter.

He can embody Goblin in a way i feel has been lacking and has unfortunately been substituted for cheap make up jobs and Power ranger masks.

For his son Harry, I choose that of Alfred Enoch from Getting Away with Murder, Harry Potter, and Sherlock.   This Harry would make sense as the one who wants to live up to the Oscorp name and up to his father just due to the almost inhuman super hero he comes off as and hating to see him look at him with disapointment, and portray the desperateness and innocence of his character...to be willing to do anything to earn not just that affection, but his own right to manhood.

Now for a very methodical....genius.....volitile....professor, Doctor Otto Octavious , I choose  Michael Emmerson as Doctor Octopus.

This version of him will be a blend of him from the Ultimate Comics and that of Spectacular Spiderman, the one who kept his head down, was even towards the beginning, hinting at being sociopathic within the confinds of his own mind where science and it's study was God, and justified any action taken in the name of it.     A man where it made sense for him to snap and not hold back any longer when his waiting was for not and he was locked in a radiation room that fused the arms to his back.

Because Marvel has wanted a well done Venom for some time now, and since my favorite version of the character has been the one who's the stark opposite of Parker amidst the similarities; (Both parents dying in an accident)  but he was the one who went to a foster system while Peter had Aunt May and Uncle Ben,  Peter has all the Luck with the girls (Gwen, Felicia, MJ) while he's the juvi kid with a stained name.    A version of him where his hatred  for Peter just doesn't stem out of jealousy for what he has, but also disgust at (in his opinion) disregard for it when he seemingly isn't there for them (off being spiderman) and they love him anyway.  The complexity of that Eddie Brock I see personified in that of Hunter Parrish from Weeds.   The young man's a stellar actor and could play the duality well, even to the point where if they wanted a spin off with the character, they could do it.

For the character of Ms. Felicia Hardy the Black Cat, (were she ever implemented into the world)  I choose that of Renee Olstead, an accomplished singer and actress who's appeared on Life of the American Teenager.

.Lastly (For now) , for Parker and Brock's boss, the rip 'roaring tooth and nail , no sh** taking JJ Jameson,

CLANCY BROWN, just imagine him yelling "PARKER!" and tell me he isn't perfect?

With that said and done, I hope your a fan of my cast (har har) and that if anything you find it duely thought out.

You owe me your soul and happy new year

-SOUL EATER

Cool article, well thought out choices.... This would definitely be an interesting take on some of the characters, especially the Osborns

I like Logan Lerman for Spidey, Lerman won me over in Fury, he's got chops, he's my top choice but I think O'Brian would fit too, I still haven't watched Maze Runner

Holy shit @TheSoulEater - I love this!

O'Brien is my pick for Peter too - was really impressed by him in The Mazer Runner. I like Jane Levy as an actress, but wasn't sure about her as MJ. That said, fitting in with this cast, and the explanation you gave, she almost seems perfect. Jamie Lee Curtis as 'tough cookie' Aunt May? Sure, I can see it.

Esposito as Norman? Hell yes! Alfie Enoch as Harry - why the [frick] not? There's nothing about either Osborn that dictates they have to be white - and well done for not copping out half way and making Harry adopted. Both good actors and that's by far the most important thing.

My favourite? Michael Emerson as Doc Ock! Brilliant casting right there.

As for Parrish, haven't seen enough of him yet to judge, but he certainly looks the part as Eddie. That said I'd save Venom for a sequel. *Sigh* I guess we have to let go of JK at some point, and Clancy may well be the man to help us...

Top marks for originality & quality of casting.

-10000 for getting me thinking about how I'd write a Spidey story with these characters - and preventing me from revising for my exams.

Oh, and thumbed.

Great read and some great choices (Your Osborns are amazing!!!!)

Only fault is that ur first three castin choices are the most cliched Spidey casts ever.

- I guess we can go with Dylan O'Brien as Spidey. He's been a rising fan favorite as of late.
- I too had Jamie Lee Curtis as Aunt May!
- Mary Jane Watson is supposed to be a drop dead beauty. While Jane Levy is cute, she doesn't scream MJ. Ever heard of Renee Olstead? She's a tremendous singer and has the looks to boot!

- Not really big on the race change, but Giancarlo would be interesting as the Green Goblin, no doubt!

Rest of the cast is good!

@RoadDogXXIV

This is the part where I say "But can she act though?"

I really wanted to drive home great performance more than looks with this one if i could help it.

That being said thanks! And believe me, I deplore race change for the sake of itself and only feel it needed whenever its because they can bring something to the role no one else could...because race shouldn't matter that much anyway. I just hate when it's done to be a statement.

@FirstAvenger

Thank you pal!

Holy shit. This is a very genius cast!

-Dylan has always been my top choice for Spidey!
-Jamie Lee Curtis is just fantastic for a modern day Aunt May.
-Jane Levy for MJ is spot on.

My favorite part of this cast is the originality of your choices for the Osborn's!! Race is no problem, as long as they can play the part right! The two you've chosen for Norman and Harry are SPOT ON!

Cool choices; Dylan O'Brien, Jaime Lee Curtis and Jane Levy are really great. Giancarlo Esposito is also very cool, he'd be brilliant as someone like Norman, but Simon Merrels from 'Spartacus: War of the Damned' is someone I think would be more appropriate.

Type in anyone of those actors followed by the character you casted them as on google or specifically google images and you'll find tons of fan casts with those actors in those roles.

This cast is phenomenal. Can't believe I never thought of O'brien as Peter Parker, but he would be PERFECT and I thought Garfield was a terrific Peter Parker. I think O'Brien could top him. All your other choices are great too. Intrigued by your Osborn castings. I personally like them and don't mind the race changes. I hate when races are changed for characters with distnct looks, but I don't mind it here at all.

Your casts are usually spectacular but good lord man, you knocked this one out of the park.

I've seen SLOAA, as well as Still Standing, wasn't impressed with her (or anyone) in Still Standing), and while American Teenager was a better example of her prowess....I don't get Mary Jane from her...

I get Felicia Hardy...

Thanks!

You know I guess I haven't checked out many Spidey casts, and the ones i have checked out i've never seen her used, it's always some model who I can't find an acting resume for, but i'll take your word for it XD

Do you think despite everyone using her in her fancast she'd work well off of Dylan?
