The Justice League Of America 1950's fancast Part 1

A fancast of the DC Universe in the 1950s featuring the all time greats on the silver screen as a weekly TV show.

The show would launch with the Justice League and the Legion of Doom in a race against each other to see who would reach the spaceship crash site in Roswell, New Mexico. It is the ship of the Martian Manhunter, and the debut episode would focus on which side will he choose?

For Superman, only Richard Burton came to my mind.

With Batman, I think the obvious choice is Jack Palance.

I think the stunning Elizabeth Taylor would do Wonder Woman justice.

Charlton Heston for the 1950's Flash, Jay Garrick.

Paul Newman is going to play Golden Age Green Lantern Alan Scott (But later on we will have other Lanterns. John Stewart, Guy Gardner etc)

Kirk Douglas for Aquaman.

The iconic Steve McQueen for Green Arrow.

Grace Kelly for Black Canary.

These are the main cast of heroes. Each episode would have special guest star heroes that I would like to cover in future editions. This episodes special guest star is Martian Manhunter, played by Sidney Poitier.

And now, lets take a look at the Legion Of Doom...

Maxwell Lord, played by Sean Connery, is a billionaire with a "good guy" public image and an ally of the Justice League but secretly co-finances the Legion Of Doom with Lex Luthor. He is always scheming and not even Luthor feels he can be fully trusted.

Lex Luthor played by Yul Brynner!

Andy Griffith for THE JOKER! (You would have to see his manic performance as Lonesome Rhodes in A Face In The Crowd to understand)

Solomon Grundy, played by Dan Blocker. (He could've also played a live action Shrek)

Harley Quinn played by Shirley Maclaine.

Richard Widmark for The Riddler.

Ava Gardner for Cheetah.

Audrey Hepburn for Catwoman.

Jack Nicholson as Captain Cold.

Robert Vaughn for a redesigned Brainiac.

Lon Chaney JR for a mind controlled Swamp Thing.

Or perhaps, Lon Chaney JR could play a wide variety of villains each season as he was the master of monsters.

And finally, let's not forget Bizzaro. Played by... Richard Burton. LOL

In future editions I want to add different guest stars, and I know I played around with continuity, but either way I hope you enjoyed it as I had fun creating it. Leave your thoughts below.

This is incredible, if they had made this in the fifties, i think people would still be watching it

I wanted to avoid actors that actually played the roles then, or have played certain roles. That is why also, for example, I did not choose a young jack Nicholson to play Joker. Plus, I wanted to imagine a sizzling on screen love match with Elizabeth Taylor. I think Richard Burton as one of her former hubbies, fits the bill. Plus, Burton was a better actor than Reeves imo.

I did a series of Fancasts titles ... for every generation. encompassing an actor who i think couldve portrayed the given character in said generation.

In '55, i chose Rock Hudson for Supes however, Clint Walker was suggested and that was far better then both mine or yours, i feel..

In '55, i chose Clint Eastwood, that rivals urs IMO, they are so much alike.

Hazel Court was my WW.

Guy Madison was my Alan Scott

Newman was my Dr. Doom (rivalry for every gen)

Steve McQueen was my Captain America (Avengers Fancast)

Sean Connery was my Black Knight

Yul Brynner was Professor X...

All in all i love ur cast and can guess how hard it was. great job and hats off to the best Aquaman pick known to man...

and for noticing the talent of Cheney Jr who (and im quoting another user around here) is to his generation what Doug Jones is to ours...

thumbs up

Why did you put Harley Quinn, Maxwell Lord, and Swamp Thing in this fancast? Neither of them were created during the 50's. Also, if this is post-the debut of the Martian Manhunter in the comics, then wouldn't you use Barry Allen and Hal Jordan?
