Welcome back to What Happens Next. When we last left off we discussed the ending of The Dark Knight Rises. Before we begin I must remind you that this article contains heavy SPOILERS so if you haven't seen The Amazing Spider-man, please stop reading now.

So let's talk about the scenario. After the climactic battle with the Lizard, Peter stands over the body of the soon to be dead George Stacy. In his dying breath he tells Peter to promise him that if he continues to be Spider-man that he should stay away from his daughter Gwen, who up to this point has been the love interest. Naturally this is extremely difficult considering that she's crazy hot and actually a character (as opposed to his future girlfriend Mary Jane) he makes a comment before his big swing through the city implying that he's going to break the promise and stay with Gwen.

So what happens next? Well simply put...Spider-man goes to Hell.

Now before you say anything I am in fact a Christian but that has nothing to do with my opinion on this and I hope no one goes into a religious debate below because of my guess here. In fact I relayed this scenario to one of my friends who happens to be athiest and the first thing he said was "this kid's going to Hell".

I mean, it's just a terrible thing to do. It wasn't like this was just the dad being a complete jerk. He was trying to protect his daughter from the super powered villains that would definitally try to attack her to get to him (this is Spider-man after all). And to make matters worse this was a promise Peter made to someone when he's dying. Even Hitler would take into account that he made a promise to someone on his death bed.

Now, I know what you were thinking, well as long as Gwen's safe it's possible George wouldn't even care about the promise. Well, let's talk about a little scene from the original Spider-Man. In the movie Green Goblin tosses Mary Jane off of a bridge and Peter is forced to go after her. This is taken directly from the comics only with two notable differences. First, it was Gwen here and not Mary Jane and second, it didn't have the same heroic and happy ending. That's right, Gwen died in the comic books and this storyline was a bit of inspiration when making this very movie. Heck, they even established Norman Osborn, who would later become Green Goblin, in this universe (as well as that evil bridge).

So later on they stay together, Gwen dies, and Peter is haunted by the ghost of Dennis Leary until his eventual death where he spends all eternity in Hell. While this would be an interesting and unexpected fate for our favorite web-head it also doesn't help matters knowing that in the comics he makes a deal with the devil.

So, there's my What Happens Next of The Amazing Spider-man. Like if you liked and comment below on what you thought about the ending. Also please make a suggestion on other articles you'd like from me. I specialize in reviews, what happens nexts, and top 10 lists. See you later.

I mean isn't that the whole idea behind Gwen's death? no matter what, you can't always protect everyone.

It did seem kinda bad for him to break the promise almost immediately, but I think it was just a poor choice to have Captain Stacy say that, because I mean obviously Peter's going to end up back with Gwen, so no matter what, the promise would be broken.

Plus it seemed a little too convenient to me that Gwen guesses exactly right about why Peter breaks up with her.

He probably should have said something like, "Take care of Gwen." But I guess that would've taken some of the drama out of it.

Overall though I did like that it's implied that they'll get back together because otherwise it'd be too similar to the ending of the original.

well if something like George survived and still had Peter make the promise or if the promise was to take care of Gwen then it would have been fine.

i also kinda thought they'd go with the 500 days of summer ending and introduce mary jane at the end.

it's just the way they ended it makes peter seem like a terribly selfish person. though i think it has to do with studio interference. still a great movie.

I say that what George said was extremely selfish, and Peter immediately breaking the promise. Peter should be haunted by George, but only figuratively. It was a great movie, nice read!

@comiccow6, good point but i didn't think george was being selfish. he just wanted to keep gwen safe. peter doesn't have the safest life.

@loudlon, this wasn't a religious issue. it's just a terrible thing for a person to do. and also while he didn't say that he heavily implied it.
