Will Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man make an appearance in Avengers 2?

He is a member of the Avengers in the comics, so will we see Spider-Man in the Avengers sequel regardless of which studio owns the movie rights? My thoughts on a possible Spider-Man appearance in Avengers 2.

Back in early to mid June it was reported that the Oscorp building was going to be integrated into the Avengers Manhatten skyline if not for issues of timing. It was reported by Mark Julian, here is the link to his article; http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/GraphicCity/news/?a=61478.
With Sony and Disney/Marvel discussing crossing the franchises it can only make one wonder if perhaps the ASM reboot was done not only because it is a guaranteed money maker for Sony but that it would lead to bigger and better things. Maybe a deal is already in place between Sony and Disney/Marvel to have Spidey show up in Avengers 2.

The timing would be sort of work out. Avengers 2 will probably be released in either 2015 or 2016, I am leaning more towards 2016 and this is why. 2013 has IM3 and Thor 2 and 2014 has Cap 2 and an unknown movie though it is sounding like Guardians of the Galaxy. 2015 doesn’t have anything scheduled as of yet but Disney/Marvel will no doubt want to introduce another character into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, hopefully it is Black Panther movie. It makes sense to only release one movie the year prior to Avengers 2 release, it will prevent the public from being too overwhelmed with superhero movies thus Black Panther is the sole release of 2015.

Amazing Spider-Man 2 has already been announced for May of 2014 which would then give a two year break between Spidey’s role in ASM2 and Avengers 2. The issue of introduction into the Marvel Cinematic Universe would be the greatest issue for Spider-Man. The easiest way of course would be for Avengers 2 to again take place in New York City and for Spidey to assist the Avengers in some way. I’m sure the powers at be will think of something clever.

The biggest roadblock for such a collaboration between Sony and Disney/Marvel is Sony and how much money they would want in return for Spider-Man. I would think that if Sony actually crunched the numbers they would find that lending Spider-Man to Avengers 2 would benefit them greatly. The majority of, if not the entire, cost of the movie would fall on Disney/Marvel, Sony then would probably want some sort of percentage of profits from ticket sales and merchandising. The difference between what they would need to shell out for the movie, if the deal meant they needed to contribute to the budget of the movie, would be dwarfed by what they would bring in. It seems like a win-win scenario to me. Someone at the top of Sony just needs to realize that.

Another issue that could possibly arise is the evolution of Spider-Man’s story if he did appear in Avengers 2. Sony would want to ensure that it didn’t affect any of their plans for future Spider-Man movies. This is easily circumvented by not expanding upon any relationship that Peter Parker/Spider-Man has in his solo movies, his relationships in the Avengers sequel would be with fellow Avengers, particularly Tony Stark/Iron-Man. Can anyone say Iron-Spider armor!!!

This kind of collaboration can lead to great things. It can lead Sony and Fox to working more closely with Disney/Marvel to put out good movies and movies that are established within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Plus it would take the combined powers of the three studios to make a movie such as Civil War, Secret Invasion, Siege or the current mini-series Avengers vs X-Men. Marvel has done a great thing with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the next step in this evolution is getting all their characters back. Though they may not be able to get their rights back, they can get them back under their creative control to make good movies that are linked.

@AcidHeart

Agreed. However, i don't think this movie will fail financially :(

If they had Tobey then, yes I would hope that he made an appearance but, since they're most likely going to use Garfield I could care less I hope not.

Look at it this way, In every single movie Thor & Captain America they had Samuel Jackson at the end basically recruiting them, if you didn't see him at the end of Spiderman then I don't think he will make an appearance in the second Avengers, Possibly the Third movie if there is one.

We can still hope that Marc Webb and the other people in charge of Marvel Movies will include Spider-Man in the Avengers sequel and our best hope is for Nick Fury to appear in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 movie to meet Spider-Man and talk to him about joining the Avengers on their next fight with the Chitauri

Did people not see the end of Avengers? Nick Fury and Shield are no longer in control of the Avengers. They went freelance. Why would Fury continue recruiting people?

I don't think it will happen. If it's in the same universe, then the events of one film have happened in the other.

So how do you explain the fact that in The Amazing Spider-Man there is no mention of an alien invasion, assuming The Avengers is set before it?

And if The Amazing Spider-Man is set before Avengers, how do you explain Spidey not appearing in New York and fighting the aliens?

@Mrcool135 have you seen The Amazing Spider-Man yet? Andrew Garfield owned the role of Peter/Spider-Man, he was way better than Tobey.

@ACira Tobey Maguire is the obvious winner here. He was the quintessential Peter Parker from Stan Lee's comics: an awkward loser who (even as Spidey) is imperfect and clueless about a lot of things. This new edgy and more accessible version of the character that Garfield is playing is just plain boring. It's making money for a reason though. Throw in an attractive star from a hit movie about Facebook, and you have box office sales. But a terrible, fake Peter Parker that plays into the newest trend of hipsters making "nerdy" fashionable and "quirky".

The only facet I think Garfield nailed was the Spidey puns and Lee's sense of humor in the comic. Something Raimi and Maguire couldn't quite capture. But no Daily Bugle or J. Jonah Jameson? It just didn't feel like Stan Lee's universe anymore, but a scripted Hollywood one.

Jesus, thank you! So many people want Spidey and Wolverine in The Avengers movies, it pisses me off. Yes they are members of the New Avengers in the comics now, but they still feel very out of place. They've tried so hard to male them feel like actual Avengers that they have Wolverine fighting with the Avengers against the X-Men. The X-Men arw his family. What a load of crap.

Anyway, you're 110% correct. There are way more quintessential Avengers characters that can't support a solo movie that deserve to be in the Avengers flicks.

I think Black Panther and Ant-Man&Wasp(together in one movie) can definitely hold there own movie. Especially with the director Ant-man has been given and he seems extremely loyal to the project; I mean after all these years he still wants to do it so badly. With the right casting choices they will succeed.

Come on Patrick Wilson and Mila Kunis as Ant-Man and Wasp!!! And come on John Boyega as Black Panther!!!

To back up pux again, the Avengers outsold every single superhero movie ever made. At this point they could put any character they want in the sequel and people will see it. They dont need Spidey or Wolverine.

Not gonna happen.

Am I the only one who appreciates Spidey as a solo act?

His being in the Avengers is akin to Wolverine being on multiple teams. Wait, I mean akin to making Daredevil an Avenger. No, wait, I mean...Punisher being in a good movie?

Sigh!

@ acidicheart

so...why does the MCU NEED Spider-Man? They've been pretty damn successful without him.

Don't get me wrong, I would love for all of Marvel's characters to be part of the MCU. But since they can't, we don't NEED them to be successful.
