The outcome of this battle was predicted by many here on CBM, however I should note that the voting was definately not completely one-sided and Green Arrow put up a good fight. I hope this satisfies all those people who are madly in love with Gambit and wanted to see him come out victorious.
What Happened?
Gambit saw the armored truck transporting Reed Richard mutant power amplifying device and waited for the perfect moment to make his move. As the truck turned a corner Gambit was there, reading and waiting in the middle of the road, glowing Ace of Spades in his hand.
But suddenly Gambit notices out of the corner of his eye a green streak heading straight for his head. However Gambit quickly realizes the arrow was meant for his prefered weapon of choice and now he is left standing in the middle of the road with nothing but air in his grasp. Quickly somersaulting out of the way, the truck barrels by and barely misses making Gambit a stain on its windsheild.
`Ah don`t know who be makin me miss my chance at th`truck but whoeva you are, Gambit says come`on out an` play`
As if in response to Gambits proclamation another green streak shoots by and barely misses Gambits throwing arm. This time however, Gambit see`s where the arrow came from and is quick to toss a kinetically charged card right into the alley the arrow came from.
`Ah see you mon ami and I do not like`n to be shot at, even with somethin as strange as green arrows.`
The explosion rocks the buildings surrounding the alleyway`s very foundation and forces Green Arrow to leap from hiding and face the would be theif.
`You wont steal the device today Gambit. Not on my watch, and not in my city.`
Both combatants face each other, neither daring to move, sizing each other up for what they know will be a battle that will change one of their lives forever. Finally, almost faster than the human eye can see an arrow is notched and Green Arrow lets fly while running for cover behind a nearby parked car. However Gambit is no amateur and launches his own counter-attack as the arrow whiz`s by overhead. The charged 12 of Hearts hits the car exactly where Gambit wanted it to, right above the gas tank.
The explosion send Green Arrow flying but not in the direction Gambit was expecting, but right at him. Before Gambit can charge another card Green Arrow strikes out and the two begin a most deadly dance. Green Arrow uses his bow as a bow staff to smash Gambit in the head but Gambit quickly regains his composure and unleashes his own bowstaff into the fray. These two professional adventurers exchance blows for what seems like hours but is in reality mere moments.
Finally, Green Arrow knocks Gambit back with a well placed round house kick to the mid section. He attempts to notch an arrow but Gambit had already had a charged card in hand and due to the force of Green Arrows kicked throws it right into the chest of the Emeral Archer. The disoriented Gambit charges the card more then he originally intended and the resulting exlosion sends both men flying.
Gambit opens his eyes and shakes his head, trying to stop the ringing in his ears. He quickly remembers the battle that is currently raging and stands up ready to start again.
`Where didja go my bearded green...`
It is at this moment that a look that can only be described as pure horror crosses Gambits face. For on the ground several meters away is the charred remains of what is left of the original Green Arrow. Gambit can hear the sirens and knows he must leave quickly or be risk being killed by the police force that so adores their city`s champion. He takes a final moment to take in the gruesome scene before his eyes before disapearing into the darkness of the night. He knows he must still get the device and that a simple recovery mission has just turned into something much more sinister... and deadly.
