With Great Power: SPIDER-MAN CGI Test

With Great Power: SPIDER-MAN CGI Test

Not too long ago, I posted an article about a Spidey short film I had in mind. Well, I decided to look into it a bit more. Check out my animation test!

Sup nerds.

A week or so ago, I posted an article (which you can check out here; http://comicbookmovie.com/fan_fic/news/?a=97904) where I talked about what I did/didn't like about each of the Spider-Man franchises and what I would have done differently.

I got quite the positive response and got to thinking how I would actually pull of a Spider-Man short film.
It wouldn't be too difficult to do whatever Peter Parker scenes I had in mind but a lot of the Spidey stuff I figured would be hard to pull off. You see, I prefer practical effects to anything else while I'm making films, and trying to do webslinging in camera would be hard as hell. So I had to think.

Green screen maybe? No. That would look awful.

So I guess that leaves CGI.

Now, I've never done any kind of 3-D animation before. I do traditional animation and live action stuff. I've always kind of disliked CGI because it replacing the traditional stuff. But I've always wanted to do a Spidey short film so I decided to do a few animation tests and see if it was plausible.

This is what came of that.

Keep in mind this is the first time I've ever done 3-D animation myself. I plan to practice and get better at it, and if I do end up doing this short film, I'd only use it for shots that are physically impossible to get otherwise (In camera). It's short and rough, but it gives you an idea of what I'm going for.

Let me know what you think? And read my other article and let me know if this is something you guys would actually want to see. Because if I do it, I'll be paying for it out of my own pocket and I don't want to do that unless I know people want to see it.

Til next time!

@Doopie thanks man! Its the first time I've ever really animated 3D myself. I used a program called iClone a few years back but it was all preset animations (walk cycles and what not) so it wasnt really my work but yeah this is the first time I've ever done something like this myself. Aside from the model, I found that online. I plan to edit the texture to make the suit less shiny and more like the ditko suit from AF15. And yeah, I used blender. Not a bad little software, kind of difficult to get the hang of though.

I know what you mean lol I cant model anything. There's actually this really great sight called blendswap that has a ton of royalty free blender models. You should check it out. And thanks! Appreciate the feedback :)

Thanks! I haven't started filming anything yet, no. I have to wrangle together a cast of 8 or 9 people and I want to buy some new equipment. If I do end up doing this thing I want it to look good. Like.. Really good.

That looks great! How long did this take to animate? Looks really smooth, 20-30 frames per second?

Thank ya! It took me about 15 minutes to a half hour to animate each shot and maybe 20-30 minutes to render them out. My computer is slow as hell :/ and its 24 fps! I always work in 24. Industry standard, so I'm told. :P
