Hello Friends!

I'm fairly new to CBM and I've only posted two or three fan art articles, but I wanted to share something a little different.

This summer I am starting production on my very first film.

Now, I already know what most of you are thinking. It sounds stupid.
But don't judge the film by it's name. Think less Twilight and Warm Bodies and think more Zombieland and Shawn of the Dead. Here is a short synopsis;

The post-apocalyptic world is flipped upside down when 17 year old Zombie (William Morrison) falls in love with a young - healthy - teenage Jessica (Cassy Schutz). Not knowing which side his allegiance truly lies with, Jason must face the ultimate decision - Brains? Or the woman he loves?

William Morrison as "Jason"

Cassy Schutz as "Jessica"

Obviously the film is a rom/zom/com and not meant to be taken 100% seriously. It's not some love sick zombie who falls in love with blah blah blah. It's a funny, action packed, cute film. With, what I believe to be an awesome cast. Check it out and let me know what you think.

I've put my own little twist on zombies too. In my story, zombies are all enhanced humans. The infection gives them increased physical strength, speed and agility. It also gives them a craving for human flesh. But, the zombies act stupid. There is a pact among zombies that you must limp around, drool, and all around act like an incompetent toddler, in an attempt to get the humans to underestimate your true abilities.

But Jason breaks the pact in order to talk to a girl he's fallen for, ultimately ending in a giant war between Humans, and the now intelligent zombie species, who are no longer afraid to show their true colors.

And yes, I am aware of Warm Bodies. I wrote the original script for AZLS in 2010. It's gone through 52 drafts since then, and is nothing like Warm Bodies. Besides the zombies.

I've put together an excellent cast for my film, as well as a professional crew with High Definition and Quality Video and Audio equipment, along with
a composer to make the soundtrack for me after the film is completed. And he knows what he is doing. Just check this out test track he did for AZLS;

AZLS has something for just about everybody too. The actor I picked to play Eric, Jason's best friend, is amazing at improvisation and he is hilarious, giving the film a lot of laughs, it's got an incredibly written growing love between Jason and Jessica, if I do say so myself, and it's full to the brim with action. Huge fight scenes the entire way through and a giant climactic battle between survivors and zombies at the end. Drama, Comedy, Action, Romance, and even a touch of horror. And a Beatles song now and then. What's not to love?

Basically I just wanted opinions on my vision! I'm set to shoot this summer for a release date in October of this year! I was going to upload BTS photos and videos to keep you guys updated on the progress of my very first independent feature! If you want, that is. Sound off in the comment section and let me know what you think of A Zombie Love Song!
I've also got tons of concept art and test videos so let me know if you guys would like to see that!

Til Next Time!

So your telling me zombies are superior to humans in every way, and make a pact to act dumb so the humans underestimate their abilities? Ummm, I know this is your first film, and you're just a kid, but why? Why would they do this? And this great zombie human war starts because one zombie fell in love with a human? Why wouldn't the zombies attempt to take over the planet, or at least co exist with the normal humans. Why are they hiding who they are? If they crave human fresh wouldn't their basic instincts be to prey on the humans so they can survive? Do they lack any basic CNS functions? They would rather act like stupid children than better their kind. How do they sustain themselves? Wouldn't mankind attempt to wipe all the zombies off the face of the planet, especially if they believe them to be dumb and slow?

Like I said I understand you are just a kid, but some of the best indie movies are simple, it seems to me like you thought of something funny (like zombies pretending to be stupid) and are attempting to construct a narrative around it. For your first film you are trying to do way too much, it's commendable, but spend more time attempting a cohesive narrative, and less time trying to make a movie that fits into way too many genres.

I don't mean to sound rude, and if you are doing this just for shits and giggles by all means do whatever. However if you think you have a future in film, and want to pursue it professionally as someone who's first major was film scoring (until he decided to go back to school and obtain a degree in medicine) less is more.

I was just describing it that way for the sake of the article. It's not explained in that much detail. In the movie, everything like that is explained through Jason's narration. He explains it as "The infection enhances our physical abilities" and thats that. He explains the decision to act stupid only as "A hunting strategy so the humans underestimate us and don't expect what's coming"
They are not intellectually superior to humans, they have the same amount of intelligence as they did before they became infected. I shouldn't have explained it as a pact. It's given to them as an instinct once they become infected. A survival mechanism. They're still all flesh-eating monsters. Not some wise race of higher-beings. But perhaps thats getting into way more deal than it goes into in the actual film. It is played for laughs in the movie. Like a scene where two zombies are walking down a road trying to have a normal conversation while walking and drooling like idiots. I explained it to far in the article. Again, not this much info is given in the actual film. And the war is already being waged when the film starts, it's just when the hoard in that particular town learns that Jason accidentally revealed their secret to the lone group of survivors they label him a traitor and attack the humans, but now they can do it to the best of their ability because the humans already expect what's coming. Does that clear anything up?

And again, it's not meant to be serious. It's a comedy. Not near that much detail is given in the film.
