Arnold Schwarzenegger Talks THE LEGEND OF CONAN; Compares It To The Original Movie

Speaking at a press conference for his new movie The Last Stand, Arnold Schwarzenegger discusses Universal's upcoming sequel The Legend Of Conan, in which the actor will reprise one of his most popular roles. The film will serve as a direct sequel to the 1982 Conan The Barbarian, ignoring the sequel Conan The Destroyer and the 2011 Conan remake. Schwarzenegger compares this new film to the original movie, and reveals how he came on board the project. He also says that, now that Universal has acquired the film rights, the studio plans to make a "bunch" of Conan movies, but make them high quality like the first film. To see what he has to say on the Twins sequel as well as possibly working with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, click the source link below.

"Let me just say that a lot of it has to do with timing. That's what show business and politics have in common. It's a lot of it is timing, and I think that I would've chosen to do Conan already if it would've been ready, but the Universal studio just bought the rights to Conan, they have an executive over there that happens to be a big believer in bringing back that character, and Universal was the first one to do the movie with Dino DeLaurentiis, and now they want to be back and do a bunch of Conan movies, but do it high-quality, not as a B-movie, to do it high-quality like the first one was John Milius directed and Dino DeLaurentiis produced and Universal has presented. So they want to go back to that. So that will be ready by sometime this year."

The Legend Of Conan is eying a 2014 release date. Fast Five screenwriter Chris Morgan is executive producing alongside Fredrick Malmberg, and may write the script if he turns in a draft for Fast And Furious 7.

If they make a great story and the scale of the film is Lord of the Rings big and has lots of familiar characters. Im in.

Hope they cast Daniel Cudmore as younger Conan. They are going to show younger Conan too right?

I want Mamoa back as Conan. His Conan was much more interesting than Arnold's. I liked all of the Conan movies, but Mamoa was just a better depiction.

The first movie had an amazing soundtrack. It really made the film seem better than it actually was.

The recipe that made Conan awesome was
1. Jon Milius-directing and dedication to the character and source material.
2. Dino DeLaurentiis producing an ambitious for the tiem project
3. Basil Poledouris - timeless and brilliant score
4. Mako's Narration - haunting and one of a kind
5. James Earl Jones' acting helped set a dramatic and shakespearian tone
6. Violence, Grit, non-romantic sex, barbarism and boozing
7. Visual aesthetic that was based more on realism and relying on set-design and location rather than special effect
8. No - CGI!!!!!!

Arnold like 5 minutes worth of dialogue. Although the character is quite verbal in the books/comics I think Milius made the right choice to make Conan a character of little words ( for obvious reasons ). I can easily see them allowing Arny to take certain liberties with the role and throwing in stupid catch phrases which will kinda ruin it.

As far as Dwayne the Rock Johnson goes.. is there no other strong guy in hollywood? Dwayne doesnt' look White enough to play conan.

I hope they use the same music from the first movies it was great . Maybe in a few more years they could digitally recreate a young Arnold and make many more with muscles lol .

I don't like the idea that they even ignore Arnie's Conan sequel. Why?!? Why not make the new Conan a threequel?

And couldn't the Mamoa Conan movie serve as kind of prequel to the original one? Then Mamoa could be Conan in Flashbacks from the new movie. Or did the events in the 2011 movie contradict some of the other movies' events? Haven't seen Arnie's conan movies for years, so can anyone tell me that?

Not saying that Jason Momosa's (sp?) was the greatest thing ever, but holy hello kitty was it far superior to Arnold's Conan... let alone that Arnold is maybe one of the worst actors of all time.

The first Conan movie had a script written by Oliver Stone.

It also had Boobies. LOTS of Boobies.

Wish they adapted the tales of Conan's pirate career, when he was also known as Amra.......

They could also use it to make Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill fit for Episode 7.

He's too old to be resurrecting this role. His youth and physique were the only thing that gave him any presence on the screen when he was younger. Now he has neither. He certainly can't act. Rental at best for me...if that.

The main reason Conan is so fondly remmebered is BECAUSE of Arnold. I'll see this. I don't know about Twins 2, though. Oh hell, I'll see that too. Ya really want to turn some heads, put him in Fast 7 (since Fast 6 is already done). Only they may have to call it Not-So-Fast 7, at that point.

The ONLY thing good about Conan the Barbarian was the music and the actress who played Valeria. The rest of the movie was just a load of bad fight choreography and campy costumes.

Arnie's "Dumb" version of the character barely had dialogue because his acting was so poor. All he did was pose, pose looking sullen, slowly perform telegraphed fight choreography, pose again looking sullen and lost.

Those movies flopped back then and they'll flop now!

So much talk of Conan, so little mention of Robert E Howard. So sad.

I wish more people would read his stories, so that they could realize how good a REAL Conan film would be.

AnungUnRama@ The first movie was an actual masterpiece. Like an actual cinematic masterpiece. Of art.
The second movie was a cheap, but slightly enjoyable, piece of '80s shite.
In Red Sonja, he wasn't even Conan.
And the reboot contradicts the events of the first film. In the first film it is Thulsa Doom that kills Conan's parents. Both of them, at the same time. It's completely different in the Momoa version.
Neither version of the events of Conan's origins are faithful to the books, but at least the first one had legal reasons for this.
I would never, ever, ever, in good consience recommend Conan The Destroyer, Red Sonja, Kull the Conqueror, Solomon Kane or the 2011 version of Conan the Barbarian to anyone, ever.
But I would and do reccomend the original Conan the Barbarian to everyone.
