AQUAMAN AND THE LOST KINGDOM Star Jason Momoa Reflects On "Pile Of Sh*t" CONAN THE BARBARIAN Movie

Aquaman star Jason Momoa has looked back at his time working on the Conan the Barbarian movie, saying that while he had fun making it, it was ultimately "turned into a big pile of sh*t." Check it out...

Jason Momoa made a name for himself with Game of Thrones, and around the time we first met Khal Drogo, Conan the Barbarian also arrived in theaters.

The movie did the actor's profile no favours, as it was slammed by critics and ended up being a box office flop that lost Lionsgate upwards of $26 million. Momoa's career eventually rebounded, something that was helped by his role as Aquaman in the DC Extended Universe, and he's now talked candidly about playing Conan way back in 2011.

During a recent interview with GQ (via SFFGazette.com), Momoa pointed to the studio and/or filmmakers being responsible for taking the Conan the Barbarian reboot down a different creative route than the one he signed up for.

"I've been a part of a lot of things that really sucked, and movies where it's out of your hands," the actor recalls. "Conan [the Barbarian] was one of them. It's one of the best experiences I had and it [was] taken over and turned into a big pile of shit."

Talking about how his career has since evolved, Momoa went on to express relief that he's no longer typecast in Hollywood. "It's been hard because people always think I'm just this dude who plays [macho characters]. But I want to be moved, I want something new. Things are changing, and even the villain roles I'm playing now are eccentric."

One of those villain roles is in next year's Fast X, and Momoa says he'll have pink and purple toenails and drive a lavender-coloured car. He'll also blow up Ludacris' ride in the movie! "I'm a peacock at the highest level and I'm having the time of my life," he said of his makeover for the next instalment of the Fast & Furious franchise.

The Conan the Barbarian franchise has remained on the shelf ever since, and there's been no indication that we're getting another take on this iconic character any time soon.

Something tells us Momoa won't be reprising the role, though Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will arrive in theaters on March 17, 2023.

Leave it up to an actor to crap all over the hard work of the entire crew. Sure the movie was probably bad but there are people making it who work far harder and sacrifice way more than some actor.

@TyrantBossMedia - i do agree he didnt have to say anything but cant you say the same about any movie and anyone who criticizes them

Also not like he is the first actor to look back on a project badly

Stallone gives Rocky 5 a zero

Chris Hemsworth has said similar stuff on Thor The Dark World

Joss Whedon’s well known hate for the original Buffy movie and Donald Sutherland

@TyrantBossMedia - he said he had a great time, but it got chopped up. Michael B Jordan has talked about being on the set of movies that felt great filming them, and when you get to the finished product, it sucks. Everything doesn't have to be politically correct. Most times, everyone involved with a bad movie will say it's bad

The great thing about Jason Momoa is that they no longer have to cast The Rock and put him on a wig.

Unfortunately for him, there are some actors who are picked for certain roles because how they look and nothing else. No one is gonna buy Mamoa as anything but the macho, scary guy. Because that's what he looks like and is, lol.

For some reason, I completely misread the headline as "AQUAMAN AND THE LOST KINGDOM Star Jason Momoa Reflects On "Pile Of Sh*t movie on Conan. But then I remembered Conan ended last year.

Jason, you have worse films in your catalogue 😬.

Marcus nispel responds to Jason's remarks:

Marcus said: " As a filmmaker in this system you are a dog on many leashes. Trying to get Conan done under those circumstances was the worst experience that I had and I was as unhappy with the result.

"I am happy though that none of this got in the way of Jason's career path…I always stood by the decision to make Conan with him."

The acclaimed moviemaker - who is also known for his 2003 remake of The 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' - went on to explain that it was a "pleasure" to give the 'Aquaman' actor his first leading role and joked that he paved the way for him to star in 'Game of Thrones.'

What a classy man.❤️

@AmazingFILMporg - I honestly think this Is what Jason was saying as well. Studio interference for the win again.

I honestly loved Momoa as Conan. It is what 1st made me a genuine fan of him as an actor. And to this day still pray that he continues in the role as the younger version while Arnold plays the older version. I honestly felt he was born for the role

It really wasn't that bad and infinitely superior to the bloody awful Conan The Destroyer. Sorry, and I say this is a huge Arnie fan, but Jason's version was far closer to the Robert E Howard character than Arnie's. Rewatch Conan and you can see that Arnie didn't even have basic acting skills at that point, he spends every non action scene eating or drinking while others do the acting heavy lifting.

They actually had Conan needing to be released from slavery, surely Conan would have killed his master and escaped? He also spent the whole movie being saved by his girlfriend, including her staying behind to hold off guards while he escaped and coming back from the dead to save him in a straight one on one fight.

Sorry but people that think the Arnie version was better than the Momoa one, truly just don't know the character at all.

Mamoa is honestly a charismatic and likable guy that deserves more roles…and he is right. That movie was sh*t.

Well both 1982 and 2011 movies were bad, cheap Fantasy movies, BUT Momoa actually looked like the character from the original Conan novels, like he jumped straight out of a Frank Frazetta's painting - UNLIKE Arnold Schwarzenegger. The script, dialogues, pacing and action scenes from the 2011 film was just terrible even if Stephen Lang and Rosario Dawson were interesting villains.

His acting was way shittier then the film. The dudes a male Kristen Stewart but Stewart has at least one good film. Underwater

He’s really great in Apple TV+’s “See” where he plays a…big…macho…scary (um)…dude. Nevermind.

(I actually do really like that show.)
