New Details On Arnold Schwarzenegger's Return In THE LEGEND OF CONAN

Last month, it was announced that Universal Pictures have acquired the film rights to the Conan The Barbarian franchise, and will be making a new film titled The Legend Of Conan which will see Arnold Schwarzenegger reprising one of his most popular roles. Screenwriter/producer Chris Morgan (Wanted) was then suggested to be writing the script, as long as he pens a draft of the seventh Fast And Furious movie first for the studio. Speaking with the LA Times' Hero Complex, Morgan offers some new details on what we can expect from the upcoming film. "To put yourself out there in your 60s? As Conan the Barbarian? I could see why he’d hesitate," he said on Schwarzenegger playing the character again. "You’re really putting yourself out there." The writer also confirms that the film is "Not a reboot, not a remake. Just an update. Where has the character been all this time? A catch-up with Conan."

In Morgan’s take on the mythology, The Legend of Conan takes deep into Conan’s rule over his kingdom, toward the end of a a long reign. "He’s not going out and fighting battles, but he ends up getting drawn into something," Morgan explained. "And he has to access the barbarian he was in his youth. I love that Conan has been many things in his life, notably a pirate, a major tactician and a commander of men. In this movie, we’re going to tap into some of those things – things you haven’t seen on screen yet." He also comments on the challenges that he wants Conan to face. "Conan needs to be faced with challenges. The greatest challenge to him isn’t the armies that are set before him. It’s, on some level, self-doubt, a little bit of slowing down and forcing yourself to be heroic beyond what people expect of you. What I don’t want is for him to step back in and look the same. That would defeat the purpose of our story."

As for his not being able to work on Conan until he finishes Fast And Furious 7, Morgan remains hopeful. "No matter what, I’ll be there every step of the way," he said. "Whether it’s penning this quickly or selecting the writer, it’s me guiding the process or being a real honest-to-god producer. I’m excited either way. I’m really, really stoked."

Hopefully this will be The Dark Knight Returns/Unforgiven of the franchise. From the sound of it, it's sounds a bit like the ending of Beowulf. Heavy is the head that wears the crown.

@Taarnish; Not all movies have to be about 20 something underwear models running around in tights. I love the idea of seeing an older, grisled, battle worn Conan on a quest for redemption, and a good death.

Wouldn't of minded seeing Momora come back, but Arnie is just as good.

The Legend of Conan is long. He has been a thief, a mercenary, a pirate, a warlord, and a king. This will focus on his older days as a king.

I still don't get the excitement of seeing an aged Arnold reprising this role. The only thing that saved his bad acting in the original was his presence due to his physique.

This is EXACTLY where the film should be headed. Robert E. Howards many short stories covered nearly the entire life of Conan into his 60's as King Conan. He WAS a pirate, freebooter, and many, many other things during that span that led up to his becoming King. It was also alluded to in that last shot of the film showing him older and sitting on his throne.

Glad someone in Holywood finally woke up and said "NO!" to rebooting for once and will now tap some of that already established canon of Howards to pen the next film.

recycling the old Conan. ...

Jason Momoa reboot was not bad in my opinion, the problem was a movie that did not have enough action to become a true Blockbuster

reciclando al viejo Conan. ...

el Reboot de Jason Momoa no estuvo mal en mi opinión, el problema que fue una película que no tenía la acción suficiente como para convertirse en un verdadero Blockbuster

@ReverendJonnyNemo

That flabby pic of Arnie was taken a while before he did Terminator 3, he worked out and got back in shape for that, though that was 9 years ago now... may be a bit harder for him to get back into shape these days...

Unfortunately, Momoa would be an excellent choice for the role of Conobar, or Conn - the sons of Conan. But he already played Conan in that piece of shit remake. -___-

So who will play Zenobia-Conan's queen?

The wrong way to go with the story is having some descendant of Thulsa Doom come looking for revenge...
