While promoting her new movie Conan the Barbarian the actress sat down with Movieweb, and dishes on her decision to walk away from Red Sonja.

Rose: Well my elbow had three surgeries and they took part of my bone out…I had…I was paralyzed…except for the ends of my fingers…and umm over the course of a year it got progressively worse. It was just a massive nerve damage so if I broke it again, there would be nothing more they could do. So something that is sword heavy, the odds of me getting hurt are pretty strong…and…I still love doing battle stuff. I still do stunts, it's my favorite thing. I always get hurt, but I have a blast. Rose: Red Sonja…would have been dope…I would have killed it…

Interviewer: Well, we'll imagine it in our head.

Rose: It is a putty yeah, but the ladder could have fallen on my head and I could have died.

Red Sonja which is just a female version of Conan in my opinion was last seen on film in 1985. In that version, Brigitte Neilsen (Flavor Flav's lover) played the Robert E. Howard's female barbarian. Basically the female warrior goes around wielding her sword, slashing and killing anything she doesn't care for.

The latest rumor has Amber Heard in the role, but I don't think that is a good fit, nor do I think Rose McGowan would've been right for the role. Who do you guys think should be the lead in Red Sonja?

I love her, she's so pretty, talented and funny.
(: I'd watch ANYTHING she was in, maybe she's not perfect for Red Sonja (although the promo's she did looked awesome!) but she should totally be in a CBM (as a Comicbook character) !!!

@GraphicCity She was in a car accident, her face was messed up, she had to have a ton of plastic surgery. She still looks WAY hotter than most of Hollywood today to be honest. And there's nothing wrong with plastic surgery anyway.

Milla's proven she can handle action roles.
Christina is a natural red head and has yet to break through into the main stream, a total 180 from her Mad Men part would do that for her (she can ge in shape).
Laura...well I just love Laura :) She needs work!

Rachel Nichols...ehh...maybe. She was okay in G.I. Joe, but she don't really strike me as a sword-weilding barbarianess.

I also feel sympathy for Rose after the car accident. Didn't her shade glasses end up embedded in her check? Anyway, her first photo spread in Maxim (before the accident) remain in my all time favorite catagory as they are fantastic. Regardless I don't think she physically could have pulled off Red Sonya.

this is the same deal as the Wonder Woman casting. the actress chosen needs to look voluptuous while also having a body you believe could wield a huge sword and kick some men's asses. so all of these pretty little waif actresses aren't the right fit.

someone like Hendricks or Prepon would be better choices as they are both attractive and with some film training would have the body type you could believe as a warrior woman
