COLLIDER recently talked with actor Stephen Lang during the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour. He was there in order to promote Terra Nova but topics ranged from Avatar to Conan and playing the villain in general.

What we want to know more about is his time on Conan The Barbarian.

This from COLLIDER...

What kind of character are you playing in Conan The Barbarian?

In Conan, I’m playing an evil, evil, evil warlord. He’s wonderful. I am Khalar Zym. I am Death.

What was the experience of making that film like, and how is this incarnation different from other versions of the characters?

We shot Conan in Bulgaria, which was the perfect place to shoot it. It’s real rugged and very colorful and very low-tech. Every department head was just top notch. I was very proud of the make-up and wardrobe and the look of the character, which to me is very important. And, there was the work with the weapons and the horses. We had the 300 fight team there. Of course, we had a very good, imaginative director with Marcus Nispel. And, I’ve got to say that Jason Momoa, who plays Conan, was just spectacularly good. He was terrific. He did a great job and was a real stud, and I enjoying beating the hell out of him. That was fun. You better have fun when you’re in Bulgaria, or you’re not going to have any fun at all.

How do you tap into an evil character like that?

Oh, boy. My job, professionally, is tapping into stuff. We’ve all got it. But, I just am fortunate enough that, beyond the age of 11, it’s what I do professionally.

I'm suspicious of Nispel@
He just doesn't make good movies in my
humble opinion. His movies all seem kinda
cheap and shallow to me, oh, well!
I like Momoa I just don't think he's the
one for Conan. He was great as the
warrior-soldier Ronan on STARGATE: ATLANTIS.

HE'LL BE A COOL CONAN...YOU CAN'T REPROCESS THE SAME CHARACTER THE SAME WAY, PEOPLE NEED DIFFERENT OR THEY'LL COMPARE TOO MUCH..BUT..

KINDA WISH THEY KEPT THE "FATHERS SWORD" THAT WAS A BAD ASS WEAPON...

I think it looks like it's going to be a cool ride. No, it doesn't look like Arnolds Conan but I don't think Arnold looked much like the classic Conan anyway.

The fact that he goes on and on about how "proud" he was about the location, make-up, wardrobe, the look of his character, the director, and Jason Momoa, but doesn't even mention the script, worries me.

I hope this isn't some cliche-filled cheese fest.

GUNSMITH@ Yeah the sword is cool, but its not his fathers!:) I know it cause i just watch Conan the Barbarian the other day and the fathers sword was stolen by Thulsa Doom´s henchman Rexor. In the end of the film Conan whoever took it back and hacked Thulsa Doom´s head off with it. Thou in that point the sword was broken.
I dont remember where Conan find this other sword, but i think he bought it from some salesman (not sure)? If you want proofs just watch the beginning of the movie from youtube. The fathers sword made in the beginning!:)
Conan doesnt have that sword in comics or in Robert E. Howard´s stories so it makes sense that they dont have it in this new movie.

I hope the movie is good, thou Nispel and McGowan doesnt make me very excited!:/ Also Momoa looks like ok Conan, but i still would have prefered Daniel Cudmore!

For those of you too young to remember Stephen Lang... he was in one of my favorite cult movies... Michael Mann's "BAND OF THE HAND"... really cool post Miami Vice pilot that didn't get picked up by networks back in the 80's.... VHS copies exist but are very valuable and highly collectible.

@Gunsmith and AlexDeLarge666: That sword is the Atlantean blade not made by Conan or his father, not purchased of some vendor, he found it in the underground cave/throne room he falls into whilst escaping a pack of wolfs.
