'Hobbit' To Receive New Look!

'Hobbit' To Receive New Look!

Will Bilbo be fatter? Have one eye? What will director Del Toro bring to the table to create a new look for 'The Hobbit'?

Peter Jackson brought Del Toro on board as Director of the upcoming film 'The Hobbit' to give our next trip into middle earth a fresh view and new look. What kind of new look you say? Ask and you shall receive:

"It's an absolute delight to be working with Guillermo Del Toro. We've all enjoyed his craft as seen in 'Pan's Labyrinth' and the 'Hellboy' movies. His unique aesthetic and storytelling style brings a lovely aesthetic to the world and one we're enjoying being part of,"

"We're just patiently waiting for it to begin. It's been in early development for a while. I'm sure it will get going some time soon," Taylor said.

He said he will stick to a consistent look for the main characters that appear in both the "Rings" series and "The Hobbit."

Taylor, who also won Oscars for his work on the "Rings" series, said he doesn't know if "The Hobbit" will be released in 3-D, but said the Weta team will take advantage of technological advancements since the first trilogy.

"Like any film, there will be an effort to utilize the tools that are available to us today to achieve visual images that will excite and intrigue an audience as we did try 10 years ago."

All this from the president of WETA. I cant wait to see any kind of set pics, costume designs, anything but talk. I want some visual aid! We all know Del Toro is a creative genius, 'The Hobbit' should be very rich in visual effects and back ground. Hit the jump for more!

"Longtime Jackson collaborator, art designer Richard Taylor, says he thinks his friend gave up the director's chair "probably because he's spent so long in Middle Earth ... and probably felt a director such as Guillermo could bring something passionate and unique and original and new to the content for the sake of the fans," referring to the imaginary world where the novels are set."

Im just reporting what I found guys :P

I didn't really feel that Ian Holm fit the role of Bilbo in the Fellowship anyway, so a new look can only be a good thing (if cast with the right actor, that is). Can't wait to see Smaug on film though...especially in 3D!!!

@Bman - I was thinking more like a Michael Clark Duncan for Smaug's voice, or maybe Keith David

I hope that they don't deviate too far away from the look and feel of LOTR.

Guillermo Del Toro has a great eye for creature work and visual effects, so I'm not too worried there. I've just hope he can capture the grand scale of middle earth, and keep the story as faithful to the book as possible.

I've waited far too long to see this movie. I'm sure it'll be worth it

I'm with you supermarioworld! As far as I'm concerned, LOTR was the closest to perfect I've ever seen a movie accomplish, so there's really no need to move too far away from the style they set down in that movie. :)

@Lee - lemme guess, Armie Hammer for Bilbo!!!! lmao

Rickly - "del toro should do dr strange or an ihumans flick as well for marvel:)" - you are definitely DEFINITELY right on there my friend. Del Toro should do Dr. Strange. Would be just jaw droppingly mindblowing.

You know the guy is nothing pretty to look at, but I can listen to him talk for hours. One of the very few who is unbelievably articulate in their speech - similar to Frank Miller.
