James Cameron Attacks Harry Potter Series..... Again!

As if he didn't make his views clear enough the first time, James Cameron has now branded the idea to split the finale in two as "ridiculous"!

"In 2010, the "gaffe" committed by Warner Bros to cancel the 3D conversion of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 was subjected to criticism by James Cameron, director of the two most successful films in movie history, Titanic and Avatar, who found the cancellation a complete "blunder".

[Now he has attacked the finale once more] in German newspaper Der Spiegel:

"Hollywood is out of ideas..... [They] created a second part to a successful film simply because they knew what sort of reception it would get on release. These excesses are getting ridiculous."

Titanic and Avatar together earned more than $4.2 billion while they were in theaters.... [Although] Avatar was released - and re-released - in 3D, no Harry Potter movie has so far been converted to the format."

i am sorry jim, james wotever you call yourself. the 7 and 8th film for the seven book is a great idea they can stick
to the book alot more. the only reason avatar made so much money is 3D. sherlock holmes out classed avatar in every way and now we have to put up with another 2 avatar shit movies

But he did say if successful, he'd like to do more, even before the movie came out, so I'l give him that

This is not a slam against Cameron's body of work, but doesn't he recognize the challenge and accomplishment of creating a film series that has spanned a decade and told one continuing, evolving story? To hear him be so dismissive of that feat is, to say the least, disappointing.

Avatar was crap. Pocahontas/Fern Gully/Medicine Man with blue cat people. Tron:Legacy out 3D'd Avatar. Cameron has a great time dishing out criticism on everyone else's work. He bitches about the Terminator franchise. He bitches about Harry Potter. He bitches about this and that and the other thing and then gives us a Disney cartoon with a plot so predictable you can anticipate and predict every plot point. If his life were the drama "Amadeus" he would be Salieri: famous for his overly-accessible works but absent the God-inspired genius of Mozart. Who is the Mozart of writer-directors? NOT Cameron.

@ Lansdowne5, agreed! If Cameron wants to take a shot at converting a 700+ word book into a film then I'd LOVE to see him try. Maybe he could give the old testiment of the bible a try in one film and not "rip off" the audience? :P

The ONLY part I like in titanic, which would be even better in 3D, is when the guy falls from the tip of the boat toward the water and hits a pole making him spin really fast head over feet. I chuckle eveytime I see it.

It actually MADE sense to split the last Potter into 2, since everyone wanted it to be as in depth as the book, and nobody would want to sit through a 5 hour movie... So yeah Cameron, you keep making mediocre films that dazzle us all with the SFX while just clumsily stumbling through the stories (Unobtanium? WTF?) and then rerelease them with 45 minutes of pointless additional scenes

It makes sense to split an 800 page book into 2 movies to close up every loose end in the series. Also James Cameron isn't the jesus christ of film making. The titanic was great, and avatar was average to me. Just because of the visuals and the fact that we were force fed the movie made it sell. Me and my friend came out of the theatre laughing at the movie, joking about how cheesey and predictable the entire thing was. Sure the Potter films arent the greatest things to ever hit the silver screen, but atleast they're more consistant than he is.

He blows goats. Avatar needs to have an * next to box ofice record. The only reason that movie did so well is because 39 tickets cost 18 bucks a piece. I refuse to watch that film. Like you all have said, he told the same old story just with aliens, yet still made the aliens african american and native american and the hero white of course.

He wasn't really slammin the Potter movies themselves, so much as the marketing and money men behind them. His point was that the decision to split the film in two was purely for making more money, because Warners knew folks would pay, obviously. The decision was not made for any type of artistic reasoning. Although the book was pretty long, i gather, Warners would have made one movie, two movies, eight movies, whatever it took take you for all you're worth.
Oh, and Cameron IS brilliant, by the way. Yeah, Titanic was bogus, but i'll watch Aliens on repeat for the entire running time of all the Potter films combined. So there.
