I completely agree Natalia! I love the book, and that last monster with the horn was my favorite, this look freakin' great!
StephenStrange

well it's definitely a kids's book, but yeah it's one of the very best.

@teabag: It's a children's book, so it's really short (I think there are only like 10 sentences in the whole thing), but it's brilliant! Dumb parents banned it from my local public library because they said Max was "cavorting with demons." Cripes!

Good god Natalia do you live near the Westboro Baptist Church by chance?

The book is wonderful teabag, great for kids and help them expand their imagination. It's a classic.

@Stumblin: At the time, I was living in a supposedly progressive town outside of Boston. It was actually pulled from the shelves for several months while the city council debated it. And, they DID pull it from the public schools for several years. Ri-donk-ulous!

@Natalia: That sux! I vaguely remember something like that happening to me out here in CA when I was a kid.

The source material is superb, the CGI looks incredible and Spike Jonze is a brilliant director, so this should be a sure hit!

StephenStrange - 9/11/2009, 11:30 AM
@Natalia.. Yeah ummm

that town is not progressive. lol

@ Stumblin LOL, HA the freaks of nature at Westboro Baptist have probably protested THAT too!

@Natalia: Sadly, the public library in Wisconsin where I grew up banned the book too, if you can believe that!

StephenStrange
StephenStrange - 9/11/2009, 11:38 AM
omg! What's with all this fascism? I have really never heard of a children's book being banned before.

Especially one that is as beautiful as this one! It's insane.

They are somewhat CGI I think. Its meant to be a blend to where it feels so real anyway. I think this movie will be beautiful and amazing. Every kids imagination 'comes to life' story.

Banning books. Whatever happened to freedom of speech?

Anyway, I love this book, I used to have the stuffed animals of those when I was a little kid. Man! I can't wait...it's one that I will be taking my little boy to!

@ LEEE - Well, it IS the Jim Henson Company. So it's gonna have that kinda look.

anyone growing up in a "progressive" back-water town knows what all adults think of material like this... ITS EVIL!!!

to this day my old stomping grounds' video store won't carry the harry potter movies because they "promote witchcraft and trick children into accepting satan". the world we live in is qa crazy place. my mother bought me this book, and every sat morning let me watch the real ghostbusters. This very quiet christian woman alowing her child to be corrupted kinda put off the towns folk. My mother said "fanatasy and reality are too very different things"

i have grown into a well adjusted adult, i have body peircings and long hair my mom thinks thats cool. we will both be seeing this movie opening day, her with my stepdad, me with my girl. and one day my kids will read the book and im sure will see the movie.

@Boogie138 - Well, evil is everywhere my friend.
StephenStrange
StephenStrange - 9/11/2009, 2:24 PM
Indeed. I don't care what happens. I don't care if the critics flip out over it and proclaim that YES the Youngblood is the highest height; nay, the very pinnacle of the genre! It's better than TDK! It's better than Watchemn!

I don't care how many stars it gets or thumbs up, and I don't give a damn if it wins 10 Oscars,

I will NEVER watch it.

I've read this book when I was about 6 and it was my favorite book. I actually wanted to turn it into a movie one day (since I want to become a film maker), but now seeing this I don't think I could have done better than these guys will. This movie looks great.

I read this to my kid a lot. This was a fun book!

RolandOfGilead - 9/12/2009, 3:12 PM
This movie is going to f***ing rock! Spike Jonz is the shit!

The monsters are real people in suits, but there is slight CG for detail and clarity. With the practical effects of the creatures outweighing the CG effects...this should be one awsome ride!

I read this book as a child also. My mother bought it for me when I was about 5 or 6 and I read it constantly. I am also from a backwoods farming community, but the book was never banned surprisingly.

@Boogie138...I also have piercings and tattoos and even though my family is old school they still except me for who I am also. It's good to hear some one from a similar community as mine had similar experiences growing up. Also, does 138 reference the Misfits song "We Are 138"?

@gunsmith. Its Falcor! The dragon ( actually according to the producers its a salamander with a dog's head) in Never Ending Story.

@Blank. Oh so its Jim Henson's company producing this. I totally miss them.
I hope they also do the live action movie version of the "Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends". That cartoon is cool (it has the "the Labyrinth" feel) and they are the perfect team to do it.
