The Wheel of Time's television and film plans continue to grow.  According to Deadline Hollywood, Kari Skogland, who recently directed The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Disney+ series for Marvel Studios, has signed on to direct a prequel feature for The Wheel of Time fantasy saga that explores the story of how The Dark One first came into contact with the world.

According to reports, the film's title will be The Age of Legends.

The film will be the first of a planned trilogy, according to the website. The script has already been written by Zack Stentz (Thor, X-Men: First Class).

A Press Release for the project provides an official synopsis: "Utopia was lost with the emergence of the Dark One, and the world descended into darkness and war. The film will delve into the corrosive nature of power and pride, as seen through the tragic tales of the Forsaken – once honored leaders who fell victim to the Dark One's seduction, each personifying distinct elements of human weakness and ambition.

In that same Press Release, Skogland added, "Directing The Age of Legends is a remarkable opportunity to bring a beloved universe to life and delve into the rich lore that has long-captivated the hearts of millions of book readers around the world. My vision is to honor the worldbuilding of Jordan’s masterwork, while peeling back the layers of legend and myth to reveal the flesh-and-blood characters underneath — flawed heroes and villains alike — ordinary people forced to make extraordinary choices as their world unravels.

The fantasy series currently consists of 14 main entries, a prequel novel, and 3 companion books and while there have been numerous references to the events mentioned above throughout the series, no book or novella has been exclusively devoted to the creation of The Bore or the ensuing War of Power, so the movie will be venturing into uncharted territory.

The film will join the successful live-action television series currently streaming on Amazon's Prime Video starring Rosamund Pike, Josha Stradowsk, Zoë Robins, Daniel Henney, Marcus Rutherford, and Dònal Finn. Two seasons have been released with a third season currently shooting on location.

There is also an animated prequel film in development that was also written by Stentz and will be directed by Jay Oliva.

It's currently unknown at this time whether the live-action prequel film or the animated prequel film will be connected to the ongoing television adaptation.

Wait a fracking minute.

They make that horrible show that has nothing but DEI, with zero quality that completely changes the entire book series relationship of men, women, and magic which is the core of the whole epic book series.

Now they are going to take the hack that made that angsty crappy we shall overcome punch in the face Falcap & WS to make a movie from it.

This is nothing short of sickening. Jordan is probably spinning so hard in his grave that the energy created could power New York for a century.

Meh, I want a movie about the two blue wizards from Tolkien lore. Mix of fantasy adventure with a dash of road trip buddy comedy

@campblood - that actually sounds pretty fun. Also a good opportunity to explore the lands to the east of Middle Earth

@bkmeijer1 - exactly, cast two actors in their 40s that can handle the action and comedy aspects. Since the wizards aren’t human and essentially high level demigods so they technically don’t need to appear as old men

@campblood - I wouldn't mind it being animated either, like that upcoming War of Rohirrim movie.

Make sure we get a diverse character telling some white male to do better. Even though, the government doesn't work that way but whatever.

Ill wait until they release the trailer for the second movie. I seen too many of these planned franchises get aborted.
