“In other words, a settlement has been reached, but it needs to be approved by certain unnamed individuals/entities. I’m sure it is a complicated settlement, and I’m relatively sure that it includes specifications to ensure that payments are made on the Hobbit films, so I assume that one of the ratifications needs to come from Warner."
I would hate to be the guy that had to sort all this out and actually tell each side what they get and what they don't get. The pay out stipulations to the Tolkien estate are enough to make you your hair fall out. What ever happened to the term "You got to pay your dues." Warner Brothers should take a percentage and the Tolkien estate should take a percentage of all future LOTR/Hobbit films that have been made and will be made. If that's not good enough for Warner Brother's then another studio will gladly take their place. Nuff said.
