Dakota Fanning is rumored to get the lead. This is not a reboot, but a pick up of the series. This new Wizard of Oz film will follow Dorothy's granddaughter in present day.

Co-producer Todd McFarlane said: “You've still got Dorothy trapped in an odd place, but she’s much closer to the Ripley character from Alien [Sigourney Weaver] than a helpless singing girl."

Filming could possibly start next year.

I always felt Oz could be the American Harry Potter if done propper and not like "Return to OZ". I've seen the twisted Oz Toys of McFarlene and I don't think this is it. At least he is braving the stigma on this licenes and trying. Hollywood is afraid of this property normally in challenging Classics appeal. I still believe it can be done.

I read the whole OZ collection when I was a kid, there is some franchiose stuff in there.
Bring on Spawn 2 !
I agree, made for SYFY movies suck !
Although Rock Monster wasn't too bad.

If it is like his "Twisted" Oz toyline it will be something to see! But somehow i doubt hes going to dress Dakota Fanning up as a unbelievable whore for the role of Dorothy!

I don't think the whole Oz movie should be scary, but if this one has a witch, then she should be a little more scary and intimidating. I just saw "Return to Oz" recently. The effects were pretty cool (Henson's the shit), but, yeah, the story sucked. Why the hell was the nome king wearing the ruby slippers? I think someone's a closet homosexual.

right on key, its on the main because its news grif. Todd Mcfarlene is still a mainstream comic book guy(Spawn) Sherlock Holmes isnt strictly news and either is RDJ going to be Lestat, but since its releated and all the above users except for youuuuuu like it, thats why we post this type of stuff. Wizard of Oz is one of the many movies that shouldn't be redone at all. I know it isn't a reboot I read that but I don't think they should continue it or anything.

actually Return to Oz was a closer adaption to the books Ozma of Oz and the Emerald City of Oz. The original Wiz was probably great back in the day but is extremely weak an in need of a remake now.

If he tries to make Wizard of Oz Darker it will fail .,
he must find balance, the first one has it's dark moments but does not over power the film.
he could always use Dark Side of the Moon as the soundtrack

I got chya Grif, cant tell sometimes with you sir :D Like I said before your my toughest critic as Haters just hate, Grif Hates on what he actually hates. Man thats hateful. LOL. Not a remake and Dakota Fanning will not be Dorothy but Dorothy's grand daughter. As for the Oz wars this might give that project a kick in the butt spurring interest. We all know money talks and BS walks, if the studios see a dime in it then they will go for it.
