Lazarus Pit is NOT used to bring back Oliver Queen?

In an interview with Green Arrow himself, Stephen Amell talks about the death of Oliver Queen and how it won't be the Lazarus Pit that brings him back

While at the TCA Winter Press Tour, Stephen Amell took some time to talk about the latest happenings on Green Arrow, including his supposed death scene, future plans to cross/over with FLASH and more

Here are some of the highlights that I thought stood out, including the Lazarus Pit already being used but not going to be used on Oliver -  be sure to check out the full interview on the Collider website

About what it would take for Oliver to have survived:

AMELL:  We just saw him fall.  We’ve seen Oliver survive.  So, [we don’t know] whether he went straight off the cliff, whether something broke his fall, whether he hit the ground.  We have mystical herbs on the show that have healing powers.  We’ve seen a Lazarus Pit, although that’s not something that’s going to be used for Oliver.  I hope he survives.  I like playing him.

So when do you think we first saw the Lazarus Pit? The First time we see Ra's, he's coming out of a "bath" and one of his servants puts a robe on him. In the mid-season finale, he also says someone hasn't challenged him in 67 years so maybe that was it? A little easter egg for the comic book fans.

About the introduction of Brandon's character to the show

AMELL:  Well, Oliver would have to certainly come back.  I’m envious of Brandon’s character because of how fun and carefree he is, despite the fact that he is doing what he is doing because of a tragic event in his life that actually happened quite recently.  But the big thing is that I just enjoy Brandon, personally.  He and I have only worked together one day.  It was the third day that we shot this year.  So, I’m hopeful that sometime in the future, we’ll get to do more stuff.

About the introduction and evolution of an expanded universe

AMELL:  It’s been wonderful, every time we are given permission to bring someone like Grant [Gustin] on as Barry Allen, and then you see some of the guest stars that we’ve been able to get on our show.  Getting John Barrowman was such a coup, in our first season.  But then, you see on The Flash, Wentworth [Miller] and Dominic [Purcell] and Victor [Garber], and Brandon [Routh] for us, certainly.  I feel like every time that happens, that’s a vote of confidence.

About the cross/over episodes, the experience, if he'd like to see more of it

AMELL:  I think that the cross-over was a new experience.  I thought that they were two of the best scripts that either show has ever put forward.  The logistical elements of it were something that we had to figure out, as we moved along, but I think that everybody did a great job, and that future cross-overs will be even bigger and better and smoother. It’s fantastic!  There’s just something about the chemistry between [Grant and I], and the differences between the characters, where we each get to shine a light on the other one, and I think that light is always really illuminating.  So, I do hope that we get more opportunities to cross over, and I know that we will.

About Grant not getting the "Flash" role on film, and comments about a shared universe

AMELL:  I was always at peace with the idea.  I was disappointed at the timing of the announcement.  It’s not about whether or not I support Grant in the movies or me in the movies, or any of these characters in the movies, it was more just about feeling that the timing of the announcement was bad.  I wasn’t mad, per se.  But, I’ve spoken a lot with DC people about how having a separate universe and focusing on each of those spots being the best that they can be is just as advantageous, or possibly more so, as having to focus and worry about constantly cross-breeding or cross-pollinating everything.  So, I feel fine about it.  A lot of people have said, “Well, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is a good show, but boy they’re just tied to the films,” and sometimes that can be a hindrance.  So, I like our position.

So there you have it folks.

Be sure to head on over to Collider for the entire interview. These were just the points I thought stood out most. ARROW and FLASH both return this week!

How do you feel about the Lazaraus Pit not being the cause for brining back Oliver Queen? Or is that just to try and throw us off?

Sound off below - Thanks!

@ImKennyPowers - He could be throwing us off.. he mentions the Lazarus Pit by name, to which has never been mentioned on the show.

As I mentioned in the article - The First time we see Ra's, he's coming out of a "bath" and one of his servants puts a robe on him. In the mid-season finale, he also says someone hasn't challenged him in 67 years. So both of these could have been hints towards the Lazarus Pit.

@cinnamon - But he says "We've already see the Lazarus Pit" - so it DOES exist in this Universe

Wouldn't the pit make him younger? Or would he have some form of malfunction similar to Red Hood? lol

Maybe they'll use a drug of alien origin to bring him back and he'll start getting visions of maps, and he'll have to constantly draw those visions or else they will become even more intense....

@bigdannymac

I believe you're right. Although if he's being honest, then it will be interesting to see what happens. Mirakuru, probably??

MAYBE a former member of the League of Shadows who they called "xuffaaš" or "wuTwaaT" saves Oliver??

(Like "Ra's al Ghul" is Arabic for "head of the demon", "xuffaaš" and "wuTwaaT" are Arabic for bat!)

It would be a big mistake not to have the Lazarus Pit in Arrow. If it's not in Arrow how do the producers say Ra's al Ghul hasn't had a fight in over 50 years. The actor clearly is younger then that. So I just hope they want to throw the fans off the trail and then you find out all along it was going to be in the show. I do wonder if Tommy will return though, because he came back from the dead in the comics.

Sucks they arent using the Lazarus pit to bring him back. would be cool to see him struggle with the pits effects.

There's just so many wrinkles to this.

IF Ra's did not kill, would it not undermine Ra's??
He's supposed to be one of the greatest DC villains, but we're to believe Ra's didn't know how to properly execute a fatal blow to Oliver?? Let alone the combination of the fatal strike and the fall did not kill Oliver??

OR did Ra's intentionally not deliver a fatal blow, because he is smarter and more calculated than they want us to believe?? Could Ra's know Merlyn is involved and he purposely delivered non-fatal blow as part of a long-game to get to Merlyn??

Does that make sense??

@BlackIceJoe - Stephen himself said we've already seen "a Lazarus pit" on the show.

So it DOES exist on the show

@ImKennyPowers - Ra's isn't dumb.. I think he KNOWS MM was the one who killed her, and even referred to Oliver as being a "Boy"

Maybe Ra's will want to recruit Oliver into the LOS in order to send him after Merlyn and kill him. Remember, Oliver has a hard time fighting Merlyn.. maybe he needs to be trained by Ra's in order to finally be able to beat him.

Although if this happens.. then we will get all the "Arrow IS Batman" crap again

It would be interesting if we saw the "Death of Oliver Queen" in order to see the "Birth of Green Arrow"
BlackIceJoe
BlackIceJoe - 1/19/2015, 11:39 AM
@bigdannymac - Then why not use it then? The only reason I can think of why they, don't want to use it is because then people would want Sara back. Falling off a cliff is one thing, but how does the producers explain the sword wound. That's why you are most likely right and Stephen just wants to throw people off.

bigdannymac - 1/19/2015, 11:41 AM
@BlackIceJoe - If I'm not mistaken..

In order for the Pit to work.. there must still be some "life" in the person. It wouldn't have worked on Sara because she was already dead.

If Oliver has a heart-beat, then the Pit would work
DrKinsolving
DrKinsolving - 1/19/2015, 11:43 AM
Yeah, I don't understand writers sometimes, the Lazarus pit would work, if they bring him back....

I think the story about how Green Arrow loses his arm in the comics would be cool to see on the big screen, of course Super-Man would need to be involved, but I think that would be a cool side-story in a DCCU movie....

@G3n3r4lzZoD9 - 'The Climb' aired Wednesday, December 10 on The CW in the US/Canada

My friends in the UK told me they are already caught up on "Sky" - So I don't know where else in the world that Arrow isn't already caught up.

It's been over a month since it aired in NA, which would have made it pretty darn impossible for you to have not known that Oliver faced a certain demise - especially since MULTIPLE articles have mentioned it in the title on this very site.

I do apologize if somehow you were "spoiled" by the title - but I highly doubt you were.

@DrKinsolving - He could be lying... Why mention the Lazarus Pit by name if they don't plan to use it on him? He's probably trying to throw us off

Between Tom Cavanagh saying Wells is the only Reverse Flash in that episode (as opposed to him and future Eddie), and now Stephen Amell saying that Ollie won't be using the Lazarus Pit... Berlanti and Co. are going to lose me real [frick]ing fast. There is some great source material, and yes you can play around with it and change it here and there, but when you create a story that has great potential, with characters or plot devices that would work really well while also satisfying fans, that's when you pursue it, not when you water it down.
BlackIceJoe
BlackIceJoe - 1/19/2015, 11:53 AM
@bigdannymac - It's been some time since I read about Jason Todd's death, so I could be wrong but I want to say I remember Ra's al Ghul him in the Lazarus Pit after he died. So that's the reason it made Jason go crazy, because he was dead and brought back to life. So if that's the case Sara could come back, but would be a different person when she returns.

I don't know, I wouldn't be surprised if they don't use it, and instead he stops his fall somehow or something....

Plus, Batman wasn't even healed by the lazarus pit in Knightfall, I don't know, I doubt they'll use it.... and if he does use it, it would most likely alter his personality in some way, similar to Jason Todd

Exactly right about Bruce and his completely lame back "healing"...if you can even call it that.

Lazarus pit would be great; Ollie returning without using the pit is no big cop out when you've actually read comics.
