Nicolas Cage Responds to Turning Down "Green Hornet"

Cage recently responded to turning down the villain's role in "Green Hornet"

Nicolas Cage says he dropped out of "The Green Hornet" film because of creative differences with star and screenwriter Seth Rogen and director Michel Gondry.

Cage discussed his decision while appearing at the Toronto International Film Festival to promote the darkly comic film, "Bad Lieutenant, Port of Call: New Orleans." He had been in talks to play the lead villain opposite Vancouver's Rogen, who will portray the masked crime fighter.

But Cage says he "wasn't interested in just being just a straight-up bad guy who was killing people willy-nilly."

He says Rogen and Gondry "had a different take on the character" and there wasn't enough time to develop the script.

Christoph Waltz of "Inglourious Basterds" has reportedly signed on to the role of Chudnofsky.

"'The Green Hornet' was something that I wanted to do, I think Michel Gondry is very talented and I had hoped it would work but I think Seth Rogen and Michel had a different take on the character," said Cage, who starred in 2007's supernatural comic book film, "Ghost Rider."

"I had to have some humanity and to try to give it something where you could understand why the character was the way he was but I don't think there was enough time to develop it."

"The Green Hornet" is slated for release in 2010.

Personally I'm not such a big Nicolas Cage fan and wasn't impressed with "Ghost Rider," other than the effects. So I'm okay with his not being in it.

@ LEEE777 i TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU 100% Cage should def try and get something else going with Ghost Rider. That's where he should be focusing character development. Trying to get those execs to do another flick that's deeper and darker. The last film seemed a little too campy.

Legacy of the Green Hornet? I don't know, I get that it was the vehicle that launched bruce lee to stardom but other than that he's a lame hero. This movie has no where to go but up. Not all pulp heroes were created equal, the shadow great hero, the green hornet? Not so much.

Cage blows. He's a horrible actor. However, the idea of this movie just doesn't sit right with me, especially since Seth Rogan is involved. I like him, but I think he's going to ruin this character and story.

He would've been cool as a Villan but whether he was in it or not is not Really the Point....

That Seth guy and that Script must be HORRIBLE and Seth Playing the Green Hornet is an AWFUL Idea and Cage knew it.

He's being NICE about it but I know that its also the fact that SETH is playing the Green Hornet and the Story must not be all that Great either.

I don't care if some people in here dislike Cage...Most of his movies have been Sucessful...

Either way....Seth as the GH is a REALLY BAD IDEA!

Sorry....

But just doesn't fit the character at all...

nicolas cage has been fighting his way to land in CBM's an look what happened with ghost rider?? he is a good actor, but not all of his movies are good. he turned down the role because he just didn't get the character he'd play. i think gondry is a great director, but he hasn't created anything GREAT recently(maybe tokyo, but i haven't seen it), i hope he'd pick himself up with this movie. as for rogen, i think he's funny and i hope that if he's going to make this movie funny, i hope he'd make it with respect.

p.s. kato is pinoy!

Hooray for Nicolas Cage! He can do anything.

Hey Nic, he's our man, if he can't do it by trying to do the role somehow in a random movie that you only half like 'cause the movie was okay but needed more depth or something to that effect--

no one can!

actually cage is a great actor, he just keeps picking shit roles, he's wearing himself too thin, remember face/off where he played himself playing john travolta playing nic cage? brillaint! if hes gonna do comicbookmovies, then do that, if he wants to play every role given to him these are going to be the critiques hes going to get, i mean, who could have seen tom hanks as a serious actor after bachelor party? if he does good in kickass then he may wanna go this route(cbm)s and stick with it. i for one think hed make a great riddler...

ecksmanfan @ i know it's "popular" to say that cage is a suck actor but you don't give any reason. there has to be a reason why he's making bank and is so famous for what he does. obviously he doesn't suck that bad.
