GOTG Star Chris Pratt On Chances Of Returning As Star-Lord AND Joining The DCU: "I Think It's 100% Both"

Though we're not sure how serious he was being here, Chris Pratt has indicated that there's a very good chance he will reprise the role of Star-Lord and play a character in the DCU...

By MarkCassidy - May 13, 2024 09:05 AM EST

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was always intended to be the final GOTG movie (at least for the foreseeable future), and it served as a fitting send-off for the team - but it did also lay the groundwork for potential follow-ups/spin-offs at the same time.

One post-credits scene introduced a new incarnation of the Guardians led by Rocket Raccoon, and the other teased the possibility of a solo Star-Lord adventure, with Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) returning to Earth to reconnect with his grandfather.

Director James Gunn has previously addressed that final "The Legendary Star-Lord Will Return" title card, and it sounds like there are (or were) indeed tentative plans in place for a spin-off focusing on Quill's effort to adapt to life back on Terra.

"Oh, but not quite over. We always want to give somebody a little something special. And Chris and I, forever, have talked about how great it would be to be able to do a 'Legendary Star-Lord' movie, a story with Star-Lord on Earth trying to adapt to the environment of Earth in the same way that somebody else might try to adapt to the alien environment of outer space. He's a fish out of water in just kind of regular water. So I can't wait to see it."

Of course, a lot has changed since, and Gunn is now co-CEO of DC Studios. The filmmaker has expressed interest in working with his GOTG actors in the DCU, which has led to speculation that Pratt may take on a role in the burgeoning franchise.

During an interview with ComicBook.com to promote The Garfield Movie, Pratt was asked which would be more likely: him reprising the role of Star-Lord, or jumping ship to the DCU.

"Well, it probably makes more sense that I would be Star Lord again. But anything is possible, and especially with James over at DC. Maybe there's something that would be right over there. Maybe both. How about both? Let's do both. I think it's 100% both."

Pratt may know more than he's willing to divulge here, but this should not be taken as confirmation that he will return as Peter Quill or play a character in the DCU, as he was only responding to a hypothetical question - and not being completely serious at the end there!

How would you feel about Pratt playing a new character in the DCU and returning to the MCU as Star-Lord? Drop us a comment down below.

@vectorsigma - I think there's non compete clauses in their Marvel contracts, not sure if he can play a major or supporting part in the DCU. He can cameo as a plumber or do a voice of a fat lazy cat lol

@mastakilla39 - His Marvel contract was probably up after Guardians 3. Even still, there are plenty of others who appeared in both Marvel and DC movies. The type of non compete clause you're talking about really just covers scheduling (an actor under contract can not take a role that might impact the production or promotion of the project they are already contractually bound to).
Idris Elba - The Suicide Squad / Thor / The Losers
Zoe Saldana - The Losers / Guardians of the Galaxy
Zachary Levi - Shazam / Thor
Laurence Fishburn - Man of Steel / Ant-Man and the Wasp
Ryan Reynolds - Deadpool / Green Lantern
Even Chris Evans did Captain America / The Losers and the human torch.

@Lisa89 - They were so in love, such a cute couple, he might not have been the hottest comedian in Hollywood but he was loyal.

...until he got famous, became a sex symbol and suddenly had options, then he kicked her to the curb as soon as he could.

Gotta love those Christian scruples and good old family values of his, that he likes to talk about ad naseum.

Maybe he should practice what he preaches.

@Patient2670 's comment sounds more probable
mastakilla39
mastakilla39 - 5/14/2024, 12:43 PM
@vectorsigma - Yes, I believe a long time ago this was mentioned during a q&a panel on 1 of the avengers films that they cannot star in DCEU films while they have a multi film deal with Marvel. Actors like Djimon Hounsou can be in Gotg vol 1 and rival dc's Shazam/Aquaman 1 because he was never contracted to return to the MCU compared to a Chris Evans or RDJ was.

They can only go to the rival or any other studio once their contract is done.

Yeah he's an actor. He's going to take an acting role. That's like asking a plumber if he will fix the sink or the toilet.

@Cass - my first instinct was booster gold too! I do think there might be a character that would fit even better if I thought more, but booster hasn’t really been done and he could easily handle that and it would draw me to see it at least just to see what direction they go ect. Cant think of anyone else who would get booster gold interest better. I don’t know maybe John Mulany as booster gold would be wild! Just spitballing but yeah that was the direction I went

A few good suggestions already, how about ...

Maxwell Lord (how about that - Maxwell Lord and Star Lord)
Ted Kord's Blue Beetle (if he's not Gold, he's Blue)
B'wana Beast (a little far fetched?)

Also , I like his Star Lord so I would be up for seeing him again in the role…

However , the proposed premise for Legendary Star Lord I feel would be more fitting for a special than a movie or show.

I could see him trying to adjust to life on Earth again , even having gotten a job but he gets involved in like a street crime or something which would be fun and a nice reversal of a hero from space getting involved in an adventure on Terra.

He'd be a great addition to DC on film. I'd take an actor who can actually fit the roles he's assigned to play over someone like Jesse Eisenberg who was likely cast for the sole purpose of getting a social media reaction out of people.

Just dawned on me both Terran cosmic heroes (Star-Lord and Capt. Marvel) are grounded on Earth now. Interesting…
