GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Was Supposed to Have The Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch Scene

Many fans were extremely surprised to see Howard the Duck in the post-credits scene of Guardians of the Galaxy, but in a recent Q&A, James Gunn reveals that the original scene would have been very different indeed! Check it out!

Marvel Studios' practice of placing bonus scenes during the credits has become one of the staples of their films, but many moviegoers were perplexed when the after credits scene for Guardians of the Galaxy featured Howard the Duck. However, during a recent podcast Q&A with Jeff Goldsmith, Gunn shed some light on the creative process involving the credits scene, revealing that the original stinger was supposed to be the Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch scene that led into next year's Avengers: Age of Ultron.

"“I thought we were going to have an end credits sequence from like Avengers, ok," explains Gunn. "We never got it. Cap 2 stole it from us. But that’s fine. We didn’t really have any relationship to the Avengers anyway, so it makes sense that we didn’t get it." However, this apparently was the plan for quite a while, because they had little time to create a new credits scene once the Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch stinger was shifted to Captain America: The Winter Soldier. "We were trying to cut footage together that we already had to create an ending. And I thought about having Cosmo talk or do something like that. And then Fred Raskin, our editor, said, ‘It’s kind of like Benicio looks over at this box for a minute. We could probably cut something into that.’ And that’s when we came up…and I honestly can’t remember if it was me or Fred…when we came up with putting Howard the Duck in the box."



Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy,” stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, featuring Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, with John C. Reilly, Glenn Close as Commander Rael and Benicio del Toro as The Collector. James Gunn is the director and the story is by Nicole Perlman and James Gunn, with screenplay by James Gunn.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is scheduled for release on May 5th, 2017.

They should have put the Baby Groot scene before the credits, then put this in as the mid-credits scene. By god, this was a missed opportunity.

The theater I was in erupted with happy screams, cheers, then a huge round of applause for Howard the Duck, so it couldn't have been that bad of an ending!

I don't care if Cap 2 got to it first, do another one. No use just giving up and practically saying, "Oh well, let's do Howard the Duck instead."

I don't see why he would've even wanted an AOU post-credits scene when he says he likes his GOTG movie away from the main Avengers universe

Awful credits scene.

I wish they had a scene with Lockjaw instead, to sort of hint to the Inhumans.
Maybe have him showing up in glimpses here and there.

I thought the Howard the Duck scene was great. It really fits the movie and adds some extra charm.

Post-credits/mid-credits should ONLY exist if they tease the next movie; I don't want some obligatory tongue-in-cheek 30 second scene.

I didn't mind about the after-credits scene. I man, it was funny, it had the same ton as the rest of the film... Yeah, it was also unimportant, but whatever, it wasn't bad. Same goes for Iron Man 3's after credits scene.

@MexicanSuperman I never said it was worse than Iron Man 3's, just that it was the worst since. Also it was amusing since I told my friends during credits it was Howard and they didn't believe me, along with some people sitting behind us, and they were all disappointing. So at least I got a laugh out of it. :P

I think the after credits scene could have easily been about Thanos, but maybe they're saving that for Avengers: Age of Ultron.

If The Avengers came out today, people would also be complaining about the shawarma scene too.

We don't need EVERY end-credits scene to jumpstart the next phase of the MCU. Heck, we don't even need end-credits scenes in the first place. If they choose to tease the next movie, great! If they just come up with one that perfectly fits the personality of the movie itself, but otherwise does nothing, that's great too.

I can tell from some of the comments on here that some users are either spoiled by Marvel or complaining just for the sake of complaining.

This reminds me of when the special features for CA: TWS was announced and there wasn't going to be a One-Shot on it. People were VERY disappointed.lol

Eh I thought it was cool. But I grew up in the 90s with a brother THAT grew up in the 80s and he would always watch howard the duck. so I always knew how lame/cool he was. So I appreciated the scene it made me have a huge as nostalgic smile.
