GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Character Rocket Raccoon's "Horrible" Origin Story Will Be Told In A Future MCU Movie
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 director James Gunn has revealed that Rocket's origin story will be recounted in an upcoming MCU film, and it's going to be even "more horrible" than the comic book version.
The first Guardians of the Galaxy movie already confirmed that Rocket Raccoon went through some pretty awful stuff in order to transform him into the talking trash panda we know and love, and it sounds like we'll be seeing those events unfold in flashback at some point.
While speaking at Hasbro HasCon (via MCU Exchange), director James Gunn revealed that the trouble-making GOTG member's origin story would be addressed in a future MCU instalment.
“We are going to learn more about where Rocket comes from in the coming sagas. It’s going to be a little different from the comics. We already know a lot about from where he came from. It’s a little bit more horrible than what it is in the comics when you come down to it.”
In the comics, Rocket is experimented on and engineered to be a minder for mentally ill inmates on an abandoned Halfworld colony, so things were already more than a little grim for the little guy back in the day!
Chances are Rocket's backstory won't factor into Avengers: Infinity War, so by "the coming sagas" Gunn most likely means Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 at the earliest.
