Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director James Gunn recently confirmed that principal photography on the MCU threequel is nearing an end, and star Karen Gillan has now taken to Instagram to announce that she's filmed her final scene as Nebula.

The actress shared a behind-the-scenes photo of what appears to be one of her character's cyborg hands, and added a message thanking Gunn for the opportunity to play the complex daughter of Thanos. Gillan doesn't outright state that we won't see Nebula again after Vol. 3, but it certainly sounds like she'd bidding farewell to the one-time villain here.

"And that’s a wrap on Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3!!!!! I don’t know if Nebula will return beyond this, it’s possible that this is her final chapter. And if that’s the case, then I just want to say thank you to @jamesgunn for giving me such an interesting, complex and fascinating character to play. I have enjoyed this exploration more than any other character I’ve played. That was one hell of a decade. Thanks for watching…"

Gunn has previously suggested that fans should prepare to lose a beloved character or two in this trilogy capper, so there's every chance Nebula won't survive. That said, if she was going to be killed-off, this post would probably have been deemed to be way too spoilery!

GOTG Vol. 3 story details are still a closely guarded secret, but a few nuggets have been revealed over the past year or so. We do know that Gamora (Zoe Saldana) will be a big part of the movie, and a recent report indicated that her relationship with Nebula is going to be the main focus. Of course, this Gamora is a Variant of the original who doesn't know any of her teammates, so we can probably expect a very different dynamic between the "sisters" this time.

Saldana and Gillan will be joined by the returning Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Dave Bautista (Drax), Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Sean Gunn (Rocket/Kraglin), and Sylvester Stallone as Stakar Ogord/Starhawk, with Will Poulter on board as Adam Warlock and Peacemaker actor Chukwudi Iwuji in an undisclosed role.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to hit theaters on May 23, 2023.

Clickbait... She doesn't know if it's her last appearance or not.

@Urubrodi - I'm sure she doesn't want to spoil it but I'm sure she knows if she makes it out alive or not

Karen Gillian returns as Angela for Thor 5, yup as a new MCU character (like Gemma Chan did).

@TheSuperMex - She is so heavily made up in GotG that she could definitely cast as another character in the MCU without being recognizable. That would be cool. Maybe a certain red haired mutant perhaps...

@XKnight - can't see it. Gemma Chan had an out with both make up and a very minor role.

@QuietStorm - That's my favorite scene in all of the MCU. It's so simple, yet means SO MUCH, it's incredible!

Nebula, Thor, Marc Spector and Peter Parker have had the most tragic journeys in the MCU.

@SonOfAGif - Um…..Wanda?

@MrDandy - Wanda is a gray area because she has been flirting with villainy since age of Ultron. And she has a hunger for power. She is slowly starting to become another Hela. Just my opinion.

@SonOfAGif - Peter parker? For not getting into college?
There are tons of characters that have had it worse than him.

@Lokiwasright - Did you not see his aunt get killed in front of him? Or his life flipped upside down because of a villain? Or how he was being targeted by hate groups and those people were vandalizing and harassing his friends and family? The spell even negated his entire existence and not one person has a memory of him.

Karen seems like such a grafter. Just getting made up for Nebula must be hard work. She deserves all the success she gets.

I’m in the minority here, but Vol. 2 was amazing. One of my favorite MCU films

Felt Nebula contributed more to the mcu than black widow aka Natasha. Nebulas story, character, appeal and story was far more interesting than Natasha who was just there after 8+ movies.

I never cared that she died or was left out of "she's got help".

I'm not a person who will cry over an actor or character but all in all Nebula and who ever the actor is did very well.
