GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 Spoilers: Adam Warlock's Role Explained; Does He Have A Future In The MCU?

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 brings Adam Warlock into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but what role does the character play in this movie and how is the stage set for his future beyond this franchise?

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 wastes no time in introducing Adam Warlock, with the character immediately attacking Knowhere and taking aim at Rocket. While the team eventually manages to fend him off (Nebula stabs the golden-skinned antagonist when her arm takes the form of a massive sword), Rocket is badly injured and the wounded Warlock retreats.

While he recovers, we learn that The High Evolutionary is not only responsible for creating Adam, but the entire Sovereign people!

The villain wants to retrieve Rocket so he can use the hero's brain to improve his ongoing genetic experiments (the raccoon is the only one of his creations that developed true creative thinking) and woke Adam from his cocoon too soon, resulting in him being both childish and not exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer! He's a powerhouse, though, and later attacks the Guardians on Counter-Earth.

Ayesha is Adam's "mother," and when The High Evolutionary decides to raze that planet so he can start over, his fight with Gamora is interrupted when he senses she's in danger. He arrives too late and she's killed in one of the explosions, and tracks the Guardians down to his creator's ship.

While it initially appears as if Adam plans to continue his attack against the Guardians, he collapses and Groot makes the decision to save him. When he wakes up and asks Rocket why the sentient tree would do that, the racoon explains that it's because he believes everyone deserves a second chance.

This appears to change something in Adam and he eventually finds a new family with the team, joining their ranks in a mid-credits scene that officially establishes him as one of the MCU's newest heroes. Where he goes from here remains to be seen, but Will Poulter is excellent in the role.

One of the highlights of the movie...for me, and I'm not a fan of the character, I can FEEL the anger from fans seeing him being turned into the comic relief.

@TheHumanSpider2 - Yes if they don't let him evolve in the next movie. But since he already has developed musical taste I think that's a safe bet(it all comes down to the writers)..

@ElvenKingSlayer - Thinh is...you need to recast, this actor was PERFECT for this version of the character, but if you want to make it serious, this actor wont work.

@TheHumanSpider2 - I've heard people say Will Poulter is a good actor but perhaps your right

@ElvenKingSlayer - I heard the same, but here he is showing his comedic timing, and it works, I dont know if he acting "serious" would work...still, I dont think we are seeing the character ever again.

@TheHumanSpider2 - Ah I wanna see the christ like Warlock from the comics. Still weird but enlightened.

@TheHumanSpider2 - is he like drax vision? Haven’t seen it yet
TheHumanSpider2
TheHumanSpider2 - 5/4/2023, 12:03 PM
@ShimmyShimmyYA - He is the comic relief of the movie, he is super powerfull, and takes himself super seriously, but he has the mind of a 5 years old. He also takes everything literally (like Drax, I suppouse).
He is kinda like the Will Farrel character in Jay & Silent Bob Strikes back.

He is also barely in the movie, and doesnt have any impact in the story.
My guess is that James never intended to use him, but since fans were demanding him since the first Guardians movie, he put him here, but had some fun doing so...while I enjoyed him, I can understand his fans getting PISSED.

"Will Poulter is excellent in the role."

Well, he was a new born. Let's wait till his next appearance and see if he's excellent. And get rid of that Guardians uniform!

@BeNice123 - Same. Remember for the last 8 years or so how jacked up everyone was at the prospect of a badass Warlock on the big screen?? Same thing with Namor the Sub-Mariner. It's all a joke, and the joke is on us.

Another article spoiling who survives in the title? Seriously, aren’t you guys supposed to be professionals? Jesus. I’ve seen it but if I hadn’t you’d have really pissed me off.

And no, phrasing it as a question doesn’t make it less of a spoiler. By asking the question you’re implying he survives.

@connorblaze - This is Josh's MO. He spoils everything, but "strategically" replaces words with spoilers. This idiot thinks we're f***ing morons and don't understand context.

"Does SPOILER return to lead the team after he goes back to SPOILER to visit his SPOILER who he hadn't seen since he got abducted from SPOILER?"

Classic Josh type headline that doesn't spoil anything.

Why are all the women so serious and badass in the MCU but all the male characters are all nitwits, hmm I wonder why this is, I feel the same thing is happening in the star wars products as well hmm, I wonder what’s actually happening here
GeneralZod
GeneralZod - 5/4/2023, 12:22 PM
@Matchesz - I miss the good old days (not that long ago) of the MCU and Marvel television when there was no need for feminist-driven agenda to hijack stories and characters, and when the women and male characters all had equal footing as to one another. It was amazing while it lasted. But then, we were gaslighted into believing Marvel and Star Wars needed representation, blah blah blah, and what we get today is utter shite.

@Matchesz - Mantis literally exists and is in this movie, you're talking waffle
mountainman
mountainman - 5/4/2023, 12:27 PM
@Matchesz - I think we all know the answer to that question. And there are still serious males, just not white ones. Fury, Shang-Chi, Sam Wilson, new Falcon guy (Torrez?), Rocket, and the Eternals (yes Icarus was serious but they turned him evil).

But there seems to be a mandate that all white heroes are jokes or evil these days.
GeneralZod
GeneralZod - 5/4/2023, 12:36 PM
@Matchesz - I miss the good old days (not long ago, actually) of the MCU and Marvel TV when men and women were treated equally, virtue-signaling was unnecessary because diversity was already baked in, and one political party's agenda didn't drive stories and characters incessantly. To the good old days.

I liked him, my only issue was how he continued to be blindly against them after "mother" died.
That scene should have been the catalyst for him to change and put him at odds with the High evolutionary

I think Gunn knew I made those "Adam warlock is sucking dick" jokes so made him a new born to spite me!

The Russo Brothers made Nebula who she is today. It's not even up for debate. The Russo Brothers gave Rocket and Nebula so much character development that it made them arguably the two most favorite Guardians today.

I really liked how this movie ends a chapter and starts a new one in the Guardians Of the Galaxy. I hope Nova and other characters enters in this new roster of the team. Maybe The Super Skrull would be nice. Quasar isn't a interesting character to be in the MCU (both versions would be just another Adam Warlock/Captain Marvel) but maybe Hercules would work.
DrReedRichards
DrReedRichards - 5/4/2023, 5:21 PM
I hope they do mature him up as a character in whatever next instalment he's planned to appear, becauase in this one, he was more like a dumbed down Sentry than any kind of Adam Warlock; least of all the kind with the creepy Magus alt.

So Adam Warlock's signature hair can't truly exist? Marvel couldn't pull off his look?
ziexxx
ziexxx - 5/4/2023, 8:47 PM
@PartyKiller - So you're not happy because a guy with relatively long blond hair in the comics has relatively long blond hair in the movie ? Way to go man, you sure know how to pick your fights.
PartyKiller
PartyKiller - 5/5/2023, 1:12 AM
@ziexxx - He looks like a cheap Arrowverse character. Good enough for you, not good enough for me. Good thing for Marvel they have yes-men fans like you.
ziexxx
ziexxx - 6/18/2023, 6:27 PM
@PartyKiller - Better be a yes-men than a spoiled brat who wants to show that he's unique by trying to find something ridiculous to say to show how much of a fan of said character they are. Signature hair my ass.

PartyKiller - 6/18/2023, 7:19 PM
@ziexxx - Long sentence, failed to make a counter point. I would say try again, but you would just deliver another fail, kid.
ziexxx
ziexxx - 6/19/2023, 10:40 AM
@PartyKiller - And you assume I am a kid because...?

You're here complaining about how a comic book character's hair was translated into a movie... which doesn't make any sense, because you could talk about character development or how he was the butt of a joke most of the times during the movie... and here you are, talking about hair.

Get a life, and stop being a condescending brat, because your argument is pointless, crying about how the character doesn't look as you imagined because guess what : nobody cares :)
PartyKiller
PartyKiller - 6/20/2023, 11:33 AM
@ziexxx - You skipped past the part about Adam Warlock looking cheap. And yes, the hair is an important part of his cool look in the comics. Are you so stupid you don't know that?

The Adam Warlock in GOTG looks an uncool moron.

There are articles about Gunn's Adam Warlock failure, and plenty of fans speaking out on his terrible look. Yes, you get off to that look and you get off very well to it, I might add. But you are in the minority.
