GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 Star Dave Bautista Opens Up On James Gunn Being Rehired By Disney

When James Gunn was fired by Disney due to some controversial decade-old Tweets, Dave Bautista didn't shy away from taking aim at the studio for their decision and threatened to quit Gaurdians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 altogether. Since then, the filmmaker has been rehired and will start work on the Marvel Studios movie once he's finished with The Suicide Squad

During a recent interview, Bautista - who returns to WWE on Sunday for WrestleMania - explained why he stuck by Gunn through the entire thing and wasn't shy about making his feelings clear.

"I just spoke my mind and was honest about the way I felt about it," he says. "I thought he was given a raw deal. I thought it was a bad call, bad decision. I wanted to bring it home. These guys are like family to me and I wanted to be involved in the third one. I wanted to use James’ script because it’s a beautiful script. Moving forward without James was a real personal issue with me."

Bautista went on to reveal that had things not worked themselves out between Gunn and Disney, he would have looked to leave the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the role of Drax behind him.

"I am contractually obligated [to do the third movie], but I think that Marvel and Disney -- if I had really stood my ground and said, ‘I don’t want to do this without James’ -- I think that they are decent enough that they would’ve let me out of my contract."

Thankfully, that didn't end up happening, and it's thought that Bautista will appear in both The Suicide Squad and Vol. 3

Well lets see if he survives Endgame, then we can find out if Disney would have really let him out of his contract. My guess would have been "No" because Disney won't be able to sell GOTG 3 without the whole cast/crew especially if they didn't hire James Gunn back.

I recommend everyone listen to his interview on Michael Rosenbaum's podcast.

Bautisa's life story is something else. Dude is oozing with integrity and loyalty. He said Gunn gave him an opportunity that changed his life. He truly is his friend.

I actually do think they would have let him go, if he asked (or pushed for it).

Like I've said before about Gunn returning to the project, I just really hope nobody involved with this movie is burned about what happened and can simply get back on track to making a great movie.

They need to do more with Drax. Enjoyable as it is, he's become too much of a joke vehicle.

[frick] I love Bautista and Drax. Then I watched that wrestling clip above and lost just the tiniest bit of respect for him hahaha. Oh man, I enjoy a bit of brainless entertainment as much as the next guy but I will never understand how people enjoy that shit. Two guys carrying on like that over a fake fight just makes em both look like a couple of pussies. Just [frick]in knock each other out and stop yelling like a wanker.

@connorblaze - It's just theatre with the stage in the middle. Although I'm not a fan of wrestling, I do admire how they set it up and have so much fans

@connorblaze - dude, I don't watch wrestling but it's not a sport, it's a tv show. Do you think in all those crime shows, actors are getting shot with real bullets? That's how dumb that sounds lol

Bautista really seems like a proper fellow. I'm glad Gunn is back on board, because I can't see a Guardians movies without Bautista's Drax

Solid outcome. Solid guy. And personally, I think GotG3 will be Gunn's Mona Lisa. Both he and the entire cast clearly love that world deeply. Gunn is going all in. It can't come soon enough for me.

Wouldn't be funny if Drax stays dead in Endgame anyway?

After Disney said it was never their intention to really let James Gunn go (just waited for things to blow over regarding that whole twitter mess), it makes everything Bautista say even more comical. The guy needs to chill out.
