GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3: Will The High Evolutionary Be The Movie's Lead Villain?

While we know Adam Warlock will be taking aim at the team in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, a new report suggests that Star-Lord and company will also find themselves facing down The High Evolutionary...

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has been hit by a series of delays, stemming from both COVID-19 and Disney's kneejerk reaction to some resurfaced Tweets from writer and director James Gunn.

Work has now finally begun on the movie, with Will Poulter set to suit up as Adam Warlock. He'll undoubtedly be taking aim at Star-Lord and his crew, but might not necessarily be the threequel's big bad. According to scooper KC Walsh (via Murphy's Multiverse), the High Evolutionary will be Vol. 3's lead villain.

The character is one with a long, convoluted comic book history, but there have previously been rumours that the High Evolutionary will be depicted as Rocket Raccoon's creator. That makes sense on a number of levels, and could also explain what we've heard about Rocket's comic book love interest, Lady Lylla, making an appearance (she's a ferret and Rocket's soulmate).

Gunn looks set to have a lot to handle in this movie between Warlock's introduction, a Gamora Variant the team is no doubt keen on finding, and now the High Evolutionary. It's easy to imagine the filmmaker being able to juggle these different elements, but how they all come together promises to be very interesting.

This is just a rumour, of course, so is best taken with a pinch of salt for now. It does line up with a lot of past reports, though, so fingers crossed for more news soon.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to be released in theaters on May 5, 2023.

calling it, Warlock falls for Gamora and she falls for him. Quill left high and dry.

I'm not sure I want Gunn to introduce this character to the MCU... I've liked both first films, but Gunn uses to take too many liberties for my taste. And this is a character I would love to see as it is in the comics.

I think of the High Evolutionary trying to capture Adam Warlock. Adam is not an evil person, but if the High Evolutionary introduces Adam into a new evolutionary cocoon, Magus will emerge from within it.

If this is true I hope Gunn resists the urge to indulge himself too much and gives us a more standard comic booky portrayal because there’s so many other places the High Evolutionary could show up.

I’ve been playing the Guardians of the Galaxy game lately, and it has totally made me fall in love with the cosmic side of Marvel as well as actually makes me want to read the Guardians comics. I love the first two films but they’re of course limited to their runtime in really exploring the mythos and focused mainly on the Guardians. But this game is such a damn treat, I’ve never really been exposed to characters like Cosmo, Lady Hellbender, The Worldmind, Raker, etc. and especially a story that really perfectly blends humor and stakes and excitement

I really enjoy the Guardians films, probably more than others really do, but that game really raised the bar for me. If Feige really lets him go crazy with the narrative, he could make this very special. Especially given how much I loved his writing and direction in The Suicide Squad too.

This and Thor: Love & Thunder are my most anticipated of the MCU films.

@BlackStarLord - he had so much creative freedom with TSS. Hopefully Gunn is allowed the same freedom for this third Guardians film and we get something special. Guardians 2 was a fun movie for sure.

Would be interesting if The High Evolutionary did his ridiculous and brutal experiments on various organisms as an answer to Kang and the variants.

Hopefully with the Knights of Wungadore, they were cool on the Spiderman Unlimited cartoon and some Thudercats like characters would fit the retro vibe of this franchise.

James Gunn will confirm this as false either later today, or tomorrow.

can someone give me a reason to be excited for Marvel cosmic again? GOTG 2 and Captain Marvel kind of dimmed that light for me. I haven't watched Eternals yet, but I have to say I'm not liking the campy tone they're setting for cosmic adventures in Guardians and CM.

This feels like this has been a rumour multiple times.

Although I'm not sure how keen I'm seeing on this character in Volume 3, I think its a given that Adam (nor Ayesha) won't be the main villain
