GreenieGobbie Interviews Doug Jones!

This is an interview from last year I did with Doug Jones, the actor from Hellboy 1 & 2, F4: Rise of the Silver Surfer, and many more films!

Hey everyone, I would like to share my interview of Doug Jones with you all. I had this interview with him over MSN Instant Messenging, and it was great talking to him. Now you get the chance to read on what I had to ask him, and the great answers he had too. Enjoy!

Doug Jones
Dylan Bargas: "Hm. Well what to start with. I guess I could start off saying I like your work as an actor. You're very talented, and what you did in Hellboy 2 was amazing. So what did you like the most while doing those films, and if there's a Hellboy 3, what would you like to see in it?"

Abe Sapien from "Hellboy"
Doug Jones: "I love the comraderie among the BPRD team ..... it's like a family of freaks, and as Abe said in the first HELLBOY "All us freaks have is each other"

I would like to see some backstory on Abe, as in, where did he come from!?!?!

But Guillermo del Toro has very specific ideas to wrap up a trilogy if we get to make it, so I would never second guess his perfect storyline instincts, along with Mike Mignola (creator of the HB comics) consulting him."

DB: "Yeah, what del Toro and Mignola came up in the last movie was amazing stuff. Sad that Abe loses his girl at the end. I've watched the comic epilouge in the DVD special feature, on the 3-disc special edition of Hellboy 2. Shows that Rasputin, and Kroenen might be coming back. Would that be interesting to see, old foes to come back? If so, would you, as Abe, like go against them in a awesome fight sequence? That would be cool."

DJ: "Just like in HB2, I'd only want to fight if it could be with gentlemanly grace."

DB: "Yeah, that seems to fit the Abe character nicely. He doesn't seem to be the fighting type in these movies though. Well, unlike what I seen him do in the Hellboy video game. Anyways, other then Hellboy, what other comic book movies have you seen and like?"

DJ: "Other ones I'm in of course ..... like F4: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Mystery Men, Batman Returns, and SUPER CAPERS (just out in select cities this weekend) .... I play a spoof of Agent Smith from the Matrix."

Silver Surfer from "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer"
DB: "The Fantastic Four sequel is a good one I like, you played Silver Surfer very well, although Laurence Fishburne did the rest. (laughs) What was it like working with Tim Story, and playing such a interesting character like Silver Surfer?"

DJ: "Tim is one of those regular nice guys! I loved the Surfer so much .... he's everything I'm not .... beautiful, stoic, regal, uber-powerful, and truly heroic, with no need to impress anyone ... just his quiet self."

DB: "Well Doug, you're beautiful in your own way. I'm not saying you're beautiful, but...eh, you know what I mean. (laughs) Now I heard there's going to be a Silver Surfer spin-off, what do you think about that? Had Fox contacted you to be in it as the main role? If so, any news on that?"

DJ: "No news to report, even though I do have a 3 picture deal with that character, so Fox owns me for 2 more if they want to make them."

DB: "That is cool news there. So what movies are you working on right now? You mentioned that you were working on a French film. (NOTE FOR VIEWER: earlier in the discussion, way before the interview started)"

DJ: "I am. It is called "Serge Gainsbourg: A Heroic Life". A biography on the life of French singer/songwriter icon Serge Gainsbourg. I play his alter ego, invisible friend, foe, muse ..... an extention of himself. Kind of like Jekyl & Hyde, but so much more, and with humor and music!!"

Billy Butcherson from "Hocus Pocus"
DB: "I would like to see this film, it sounds interesting. Although, since it's a French film, I probably won't understand the words they say. (laughs) So I like to bring up something, that would probably seem weird to you. I found that you played as Billy Butcherson from Hocus Pocus back in 1993. This movie is one of my all-time favorite classic films, I just like it so much. So what was it like playing as a zombie character in that movie? (laughs) Since it was like one of your first films, were you scared, nervous, or uncomfortable with the other people you were working with?"

DJ: "I loved playing Billy so much! He is one of my all time favorites. I was put at ease by our director Kenny Ortega, as he was so happy and energetic, and the cast was amazing to work with. It was a comedy, so there was a fun attitude all around that set. Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy were fantastic to work with, and so funny. The younger cast was also great. Thora Birch was only 11 years old back then, and such a professional already!"

DB: "Sounds like a lot of fun you had back then. It was such an enjoyable and memorable movie too. It was great talking with you Doug, I hope we can talk soon. I hope you have a great time filming your new movie."

DJ: "Thanks so much Dylan!! Great to finally catch up with you! There's Big Love!"

DB: "And thank you for having this interview with me."

DJ: "Thank you too!"

I understand that you need to advertise to keep the site running to pay for it, but The Sorcerer's Apprentice video going off every time I click on something is getting a little old right now.
