Battle of the Remakes: Black Christmas 2006 vs 2019

Okay so where do we begin? Back on Valentine's Day of all holidays, I decided to watch both the 2006 and 2019 versions of Black Christmas, not only because I hate myself but because I needed to see just how terrible the 2019 remake actually was. The 2006 version of the film is actually decent for it's time, with the whole Billy being the killer thing and killing off sorority girls one by one. The acting was okay and with the re-remake, this one wasn't all about the whole feminism thing, which I hated immensely.

The 2006 version was decent because it stayed true to being a slasher film with an actual backstory about a mentally deranged adult who had a screwed up childhood. It showed that moving a sorority into the house where he killed his mother and stepfather was definitely not a good idea and he was out to get rid of them ASAP, especially on Christmas. I wish we saw more of the kills though, such as the girl in the car where her head falls off. It also gave off a vibe that you would want these girls to be taken out because their attitudes, especially during the holidays, werent the greatest. Lastly, when's the last time we had a winter slasher horror film that was actually good?

Black Christmas 2019 however, is a heaping pile of dog dung. There were multiple instances where I wanted to turn the film off not even midway through because of the perception it was presenting that all males are trash and that nobody can be trusted. It also wasn't a true slasher as it ventured into the supernatural by having a statue of the dead dean or whatever he was be the source of why male college students were targeting the females. The tipping point, for me, was having one of the male students actually say "your body, your choice" when confronting a female. It was an agenda driven film masked as a horror film and if they ever do a 3rd remake....please don't do crap like this again

End result: the 2006 version of Black Christmas wins by a landslide.
