FOR SALE: Slightly used 1959 Cadillac Hearse - Plates Read: Ecto-1

You read that correctly. The one and only Ghostbusters vehicle Ecto-1 is up for bid on eBay.

The listing reads as follows:

There is not a lot that can be said about this car once you see it you know what it is. This car was owned by Universal Studios as you can see by the copy of the title. This is the real Universal car not a copy. The car runs and drives [well] it has new tires on it [now]. The car is in a car Museum right now, when it goes on tour it draws a VERY VERY LARGE crowd. If you have any [questions] please call 419-571-9777. Thank you.

Words can not express how sad this makes me! I have not only seen this car in person, but been inside it. It had been housed at the car museum in Gatlinburg, Tennessee with the original Munster's Dragula. This was one of Tennessee's secret treasures, and now it can be yours for the low, low (current) bid of $45,100.

Offer: Literally one of, if not both of, my testicles...that literally translates into:

I will sacrifice my ability to produce offspring in my name, for the automobile driven and used in the Ghostbusters franchise.

this is one of those nit-picky things with me...it's not a hearse...it's an old-school ambulance. but other than that, anybody know how I can quickly raise $45,100?

"this is one of those nit-picky things with me...it's not a hearse...it's an old-school ambulance."

If I remember correctly, the 1959 Caddy model for the ambulance was the same as hearse, it was just who ever the end buyer was as to which it would become.

Regardless...
"hopefully Harold Ramis buys it for GB3"

I concur!

@Falcon-- well, if you look it up (which I did, because I've had this argument with a few people before) the Ecto 1 was an "ambulance conversion" meaning that even if the 1959 model could be either an ambulance or a hearse, the model that was used for the Ecto 1 was previously an ambulance, but honestly...I think it would've made more sense for the ghostbusters to go with something a little more obviously a hearse (y'know, the whole "ghost" thing...)

I guess it really could go either way, but I'm almost 100% sure that in real life (not in continuity, I don't recall that ever being brought up) the Ecto 1 was made from an old ambulance.

@Logan-X--It may not look exactly like the Ecto 1 (although it looks like it to me) because the original Ecto 1 crapped out and they had to get a new one for GB 2, some guy got ahold of the original and rebuilt it...maybe he made a few alterations...

Who cares if it's a hearse or an ambulance...IT KICKS ASS AND THAT'S ALL THAT MATTERS! Can't wait to see what they do for GB3...and yes...hope that Ramis buys it for the new movie.

@ Contrast...that's understandable dude. My sister is the same way. She is a pop culture junkie and loves trivia. So I do see where your coming from.

contrast you are almost right. The car was not called a "ambulance conversion" but a combination. It was a hearse and ambulance combined.

I once drove into a A&W Root Beer resturant with a white '68 combination. The waitress had a nasty look on her face because I had the car dressed up as a hearse. When she went to get our food, I removed the landau panels and pulled up the ambulance signs and she seemed to like that better. It was funny at the time.

By the way if you look on Youtube for the Knight Rider episode that rolled over and blew up the hearse, that was the same car painted black.
